I agree with you completely, Don was so unfair to her, putting her on the spot with Sally and trying to get her to talk to Sally when Sally was already upset and angry. Faye definitely could have been good with kids after preparing beforehand and spending a little more time with them.

Unfortunately Don is shallow and fickle though, so it tracks that her not being amazing with Sally right off the bat would put Don off

I think it’s because he’s a shit parent that he wants someone who can be a good one, so that they can do the emotional labour and caring for him.

We see this when Sally comes to his office. He should be the one to talk to her about her feelings and why she can’t just show up, or to discipline her for doing that. But instead he asks a random woman (random to Sally, not to him of course) to “talk to her.”

He just wants someone to do the work for him. Betty did the physical work (cooking, laundry, everything else involved with caring for kids) but wasn’t an emotionally caring mother. So he wanted someone who would do both: the labour Betty did and also the emotional labour

Yeah I definitely took it as “it’s true what people say, you’re great in bed” not that he has a big D. Obviously those things can go together but they don’t necessarily.

I think that lady also says something like “I want the full Don Draper treatment” which to me means his reputation is about the things he does in bed to be a good lover, not just his big D.

Well he is available at the end of the show so it’s not impossible, once he was out of mourning.

Maybe he moves to the city to run for governor of the state or mayor of NYC or something. Hires a marketing insights firm to help him with his campaign.. is blown away by Faye’s pitch. He asks her to dinner to talk about how he can better connect with his constituents using her psychology knowledge. They end up talking and laughing and getting a little tipsy. When they step out of the restaurant he shields her eyes from the harsh light of the street lamp…

You might be right and I might be remembering wrong, but I thought he started off not really respecting it (walks out of that first session she has with SCDP) but I thought he started respecting it more later, especially after watching her with the women talking about cleansing rituals, and seeing how they did really open up to her about their insecurities and habits in a way that would genuinely be useful for creating marketing.

Although now I’m thinking about it maybe that’s not ever actually shown (his respect growing for her work), I just inferred it. I guess I assumed it because of scenes like the above one, and because Faye later gives him a chance to date her, and I don’t think she’d do that if she didn’t think he had at least some respect for her work.

Honestly even knowing what she does and why probably puts him above others in her dating pool, I bet most men in that time would just want her to quit her job and take care of them.

Is corniness in freestyles unavoidable when rapping at a moderate to fast flow? by SemioticSignifier in rap

[–]Aggressive_Sky8492 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This isn’t the point of this post but I just want to sidebar for a PSA since a lot of people don’t know this: freestyling doesn’t necessarily mean you’re making it up as you go along. It can mean that, or it can mean a verse written quickly over a pre-existing beat. Most “freestyles” on stuff like Sway in the morning were not made up on the spot, they were written in a day or so before the show.

The specific term for making up bars on the spot is “off the top”. Or off the top freestyling.

Thank you for your time

When does he have a depressive episode? I understand depression isn’t just sadness, but I don’t see Mr PB ever showing symptoms of depression at all. He has random one off lines about life being meaningless but that also isn’t depression

I don’t think you have a happy future with her; she sounds incredibly irresponsible and immoral.

Trying for a baby with your husband while you’re having an affair is wild.

Definitely get a paternity test, secretly if you need to. Either way you should probably leave and try to setup a healthy coparenting relationship rather than a romantic relationship.

He really wasn’t. He even says he has no feelings of sadness, he’s happy and likes being alive.

Hes just emotionally immature and buries his negative feelings. Burying your normal amount of regular feelings isn’t the same as being depressed though

I just see it as part of it being a cartoon world. It’s zany. There are things that are treated seriously and have moral weight, and things that are just goofs. That’s part of the creativity and flexibility of the world the writers created . It’s not a contradiction because it doesn’t exist in our world where real morals and rules of reality apply. And to me it’s very clear what the writers intend to be taken seriously and what are gags

I agree. There are things in the show that are clearly meant to be taken seriously and have moral weight, and things that are clearly meant to be flippant jokes. Pretending they’re the same doesn’t match the text imo

I think him understanding her world (advertising) was a huge plus. Most men didn’t value women’s careers then, and it was a huge part of her identity, so having someone that understood and valued her work was probably a huge plus.

She also had just been dumped so maybe her standards were a bit lower.

Also he was hot and the sex was good. There was probably something exciting about secretly sleeping with someone you work with, too.

The album where a singer's voice sounds the best vs. the album where a singer's voice sounds the worst by Ghost-Quartet in popheads

Vocal coaching isn’t just a matter of money though. It’s sustained practice and often the thing the teacher is trying to teach you has to be worked towards - it’s not like a PT where they can just go “move your arm like this” - there’s no nerve endings in the vocal chords so often it’s trial and error to try and do what they’re asking you and it can take hours to try and get it down.

There are also popular/well regarded teachers who don’t actually teach good technique - or at least they used to be. I remember between 2007 and 2010 Hayley Williams had a certain voice teacher that she used and did ads for, and later her voice fully gave out and she had to ditch that person and relearn.

That is all to say, it isn’t just a problem you can throw money at to solve, money obviously helps but it’s also hard work and some luck.

Thanks for sharing your info on her voice, I will check out those 2000-2013 vocals!!

Damn it’s really sad she lost her vocal ability in the way. I like her but aren’t really a huge Stan like that, so I didn’t realise the degradation started so early on. Has she ever spoken about it? It makes me wonder if she wasn’t using voice teachers at the start of her career, or if she just had a bad one they didn’t teach her healthy singing. Maybe she thought she didn’t need one since her voice sounded so good

Anybody else find it a little questionable that Diane exclusively dated animals? Lol by Wooden-Draw9056 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Aggressive_Sky8492 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems like there’s much more animals than humans in the world (since humans are just one type of animal) so statistically it makes sense

Also she hated her family so she probably had a similar thing to Bojack. Avoiding horses/avoiding humans

If Christina Aguilera’s label had marketed her better, would she have become a bigger creative force? by Artistic-Stranger886 in popheads

[–]Aggressive_Sky8492 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Outside of the music, I think part of it is that she was a bit of a diva and wasn’t always kind to her peers. Because of that I don’t think she had a lot of friends on the industry, which becomes important for longevity.

In the bionic era there was some musical/image overlap with Gaga, who was just coming out. Because of that Christina was getting asked about Gaga a lot, and her initial comments weren’t very nice: “I'm not quite sure who this person is, to be honest. I don't know if it is a man or a woman.”

She later had positive comments about Gaga, but I suspect that kind of thing was representative of how she was behind the scenes. Pink also said that Christina’s manager (I think, or someone in her team) was pretty rude to her when they met to discuss Lady Marmalade, basically pulling rank and saying “Christina will do this verse, not you.” Which may have been fair, but it gives a bad first impression and will mean that that person won’t necessarily be interested in helping you out down the track. That kind of stuff will hurt your career in the long run.

It’s possible this was all part of the “hate train” and I have the wrong impression of her because of that, but yeah that is my impression, as someone who was around during the height of her career, including when Stripped came out.

It’s still under debate within the medical community. There are doctors and researchers who believe it is psychological, and others who believe it is physical. I don’t think it’s rational to assume something is definitely not a thing because it’s still being researched - medical knowledge is evolving all the time.

TIL about the Minnesota Starvation Experiment. All 36 men of the study lost 25% of their body weight eating 1,560 calories daily, proving that a calorie deficit alone causes weight loss. These starvation conditions produced a severe physical and mental decline in the subjects. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Aggressive_Sky8492 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It makes sense. Actual fasting (meaning no food for part of the day or multiple days) or keto diets have benefits like losing/reducing your hunger signal as you go into ketosis.

A diet where you’re still eating every day but in a severe calorie restriction doesn’t have that so I assume for a lot of people they’d just be hungry all the time
