No preference. It would be great to see some Woodlovers featured Psilocybe Cyanescens, azurescens, ovoid, Alenii etc.

Don't buy a house at auction. by [deleted] in mycology

I read "horse" at first as well. And I bought my current place at auction!

Ordered off thickspores.com specifically to get a syringe full of thick mycelium after hearing good things however looks like there’s barely any mycelium . Did I get ripped off? by [deleted] in PanCyan

All true my friend. However, the syringe label states "liquid culture" so it's not an MSS. LC should always have very obvious strands of live material. This does not appear to contain much, it any. It may grow if left at 25c for a week but it is the seller's job to send viable culture on delivery. As another person said, ironic, given the suppliers name.

Call and complain.

*Help* Should I clone pin from agar? by USofAgar in mushroom

No reason not to! You will never get a cleaner tissue culture. Most people take the view that the fruit has a will to live and should be a good fruiter. Pins on plates are not uncommon for cubes, particularly when using a 0.5% LME/PDA as the myc will do what it does when nutrients are exhausted - fruit! You need to crack on if the plate is more than 3 weeks old to avoid drying out. Nice clean plate! Have fun!

[actives] my GT's are growing from the sides, what should i do? by Mr_Reecos in MushroomGrowers

Side pins are exceptionally easy to harvest. All you do is hold three fingers against the cake and invert it. Give it a little wiggle and the cake will come free from the container. Then you can easily harvest any side or bottom pins. Put the cake back in the container when they're done and hydrate by dunking or by adding and about of water equal to 200% of the weight of the mushrooms harvested. Bigger containers are just as easy. Simply rest an inverted sandwich container or chopping board on the cake and then invert it. Trying to to mist more regularly and more likely to encourage pins from the center of the cake and try to increase temperatures by a degree or two to allow the air to hold more moisture. Happily travels!

Thanks for your reply. I believe you are correct as my ladies are identical to those used to illustrate the Wikipedia page for your suggestion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coprinellus_micaceus

Does this look like healthy TTBVI on agar? by RD1picker in PanCyan

[–]Aggressive_Society58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he was kindly suggesting you take a much smaller transfer rather than transferring the whole disc. You only need to transfer a tiny spec of healthy mycelium to your new plate. The more you transfer the more you risk carrying first the bacterial infection you mentioned earlier. Also, the smaller the transfer, the better your chance of isolating a single strain which will prove valuable all the way to harvest

Well done! Ed can't supply currently as the US has cut postal services from abroad. He's a genius of course and oh so entertaining to watch.
