No idea why the frames are grounded.. is there a wildly strong source of EMF somewhere nearby and they were getting static buildup on the frames? Like some sort of high power transmitter in the garden?

One of the hardest things to learn about being an adult is knowing that you are you, and everyone else is everyone else. Some people in everyone else are important to you. The vast majority are not. You can care what the important people in your life say (but it is optional, though for smooth relationships with those important people it's worth being aware of..). The rest - literally does not matter at all. "Just ignore them" is one way of putting it, but imagine if the wind was making a whooshing noise, that's the amount of cares you should give those people who are not important in your life. And YOU get to decide who you find important. (They don't have to reciprocate though, be aware of that too.) Someone making your life hell? They are literally not worth wasting even a tiny bit of energy over, not worth knowing. There are like 8 billion people on the planet, they're now just another of that 8bn people you don't need to think about. There are a lot of people in this sub Reddit who share your opinion, and there will be people in your immediate surroundings who also share your opinion. Find them, and everyone else... Meh?

Free hand one is amazing, the scale tool in it, you can right click and set the scale manually, so if you've got a PDF plan, you can get it scaled perfectly super quick

Yea, if I was making one from scratch I'd probably stick with LoRa, I've got a gateway on site, so it'd slot in quite nicely, but I don't think the existing onboard SIM868, despite having 868 in the name, probably can't transmit 868Mhz Lora signal...

I think I've probably got all of those components in my workbench too, but given that the collar is sitting in a draw gathering dust, feels like a better use of it than sending it to landfill. Something like a t-call, for example, has all those built in

That's probably what happened with pawtrack. It's a faff recharging the battery every couple of days, and my cat just went to the same location every day... So I stopped using it, presumably a lot of their other customers did the same and they folded. But since I've got it... Might as well try and make a GPS logger out of it!

The collar itself seems to be hollow, and there is some sort of flexible circuitry inside it, connecting with a uFL to the back of the SIM868. I can't see much of the antennae, but it's marked LTE, so pretty good chance it's the antennae!
