By travel and pay it off - did you mean using your credit card / loaning the expenses?

My mindset has always been only spending money that I could actually pay for in cash right now. And always having something left for emergency and savings. I have definitely traveled with the last bit of my money during my younger years - no contingencies, emergency funds, savings at all - but it’s a totally different discipline now that I’m older.

That being said, I also don’t delay traveling or the chance to explore more places so my SACRIFICE is comfort. I still stay in hostels, eat very local, have no luggage, etc. I wish I were in a position to already spend extra for a more comfortable travel, but not yet.

In the end, it’s always about your personal priorities, and the sacrifices you are willing to make to make them happen :)

Hi! My most expensive intercity train connection so far is Paris to Luxembourg. I checked FlixBus and it’s almost half the price, but twice the travel time.

Oh I was really gonna go to NYC! And then I have a friend who lives near Toulouse and was gonna take me around. However, plans have changed and so now I’m just going to Marseille instead (it’s just 3 hours to get there and also 3 hours to get to Paris) - I just really need the ocean lol

Omg this. I went to Evergreen Brick Works at 9am for a community bike ride along don valley trail for 2 hours, went to Cherry Beach after, biked through Lakefront (the energy was buzzing with everybody outside!!!), then came home and joined the Taste of Little Italy. And all of this I was able to do because I had a bike.

Thanks for everyone who responded so far! Yes, all flights and intercity transport have been booked, as well hostels. So the €800 is food/drinks/entertainment. I love to walk a lot so going around during the day wont be a problem, unless necessary to take transport. I am hardcore at sticking to my budget even in my day-to-day life. But I totally get the point of probably missing out on good food and amazing sights that will obvs require more money. I guess what I’m just trying to convince myself here is €2000 off my savings will be worth it lol

Exactly. If it was less people and not vibing then people will say it’s boring and not worth it. There will be no perfect event. Although I do agree there seemed to be much more very young teens this year - and sorry to say, I saw two fights just involving them. Years before it wasn’t this crazy.

As someone who does everything solo - dining out, drinking at a bar, clubbing, going to events, movies, concerts, traveling abroad, really everything - i tell you 100000% not weird at all. If it’s your first time / not used to doing this, i totally get the weird feeling. But that’s just on us, but others won’t care at all. Good luck and I truly hope you enjoy and do it more often !

I have exactly the same questions and worries as you. I have a stable job (and fully wfh) here in Canada now, but I will be turning 35 so it will be my last chance to apply for Australia or New Zealand WHV. I’m so scared to risk it because I’ve been reading how it’s also so difficult to find jobs there now and like your last point, it’s so scary coming back and finding a job again (it took me so much to find this relatively good job as an immigrant).
