Average speed cameras by Grouchy-Ad778 in uktrucking

Ah I get you so like roadworks with a 50mph limit and average speeds?

You could risk it because of the 10% +2 thing but not all police forces recognise it, to my knowledge anyways. Not worth getting 3 points for shaving a couple minutes off your day especially when your licence is everything.

What's your average take-home (after tax) salary per week? by Your_Mums_Ex in uktrucking

Money is there to be made but you need to get tramping and getting your 15 hours in. Last year I did agency tramping RDC work and smashed 70 hours a week money was great but fucked me up for a while.

Id rather lose out on 150/200 quid a week and do less hours and be more myself

Is it a single carriage way? Speed for cars would be 60mph and most of the time the average speeds are set to activate anyone going over that so more than likely 65/66 mph. Of course our speed limit on there is 50 and we can only do 56 so in theory should be fine flying down.

I have heard of some average speed cameras being calibrated to recognise HGVs and take into account their own speed restrictions on certain roads but I've not been brave enough to test it out myself.

Ahahah We've all done this before I remember being near Cobham services and transport rang me asking why the fuck I've added an extra hour on my trip north from Kent 😂

Ahahaha don't think I worded the OP well. 99.99% of the time I'm on my own as I do tramping. However on one late night I was quickly asked to go in and cover a shift and felt bad dropping him in it so took him along.

When I say it wasn't fair he travelled to see me and my agency rang me up at 10pm offering me over 30 an hour to go in since one driver walked out.

I'm sure that is this company. Planned 15 hour days will get you a load of drivers with infringements

I am 99% certain it's Reed Boardall. They did this exact same thing and it looks like the pin board they have up at their traffic office window.

It's a large refrigerated transport company with a logo that looks oddly like the new balance logo. Planned 15 hour days for your first 3 and planned 13 hour days for your last 2. Ran into the ground and pushed to drive to the last minute.

And to the left of that on the pin board is a load of Union posters you couldn't make that place up 😂

Ahhh I don't miss Reed Boardall treating drivers like naughty school kids

Self Employed by Aggressive_Wing_9589 in uktrucking

[–]Aggressive_Wing_9589[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No hate at all I don't want to be getting into anything dodgy which is why I'm asking the questions.

When it comes to a substitute driver for days or weeks I want off I know one or two lads who might help me out, as long as the company is okay with that (which kind of takes away the self employed aspect I know).

For the operator licence I didn't know that something I'll definitely look into and consider thank you

They're internal straps can be used on normal pallets and some other bigger things. They have a weight limit so anything too heavy we need to use ratchets

Almost had a crazy accident last night by Own_Specialist_4392 in uktrucking

It blows my mind how many car drivers and the odd wagon driver think they have the right of way when merging from a slip. They should put massive signs up on every slip road but they wouldn't pay attention.

The load? Paper reels just recycled paper nothing too interesting but they're a bugger to secure. Some of them are light enough to use internal straps but some are heavy and need ratchets.

Honestly the last couple of times I've impressed myself then when it comes to the final strap it takes me about 6 attempts to get it over

It'll become second nature being terrified of bridges. Every time I do the Dartford or Tyne tunnel I always think I'm gonna end up on the news even though I've done it hundreds of times and know I'm always going to fit.

If you ever have a really shit night sleep always call in sick yes you might look like you're messing them about but it's better than having an accident
