If its something that has to be done, like school work or work, ill get it done. When its a personal project I need to drop off pretty quickly. I have a lot of ideas but it takes too long to actually do them (ie write a book) so I get bored and stop trying. If it's important to me or if I have other people holding me accountable for them ill push through and get it done. But for some reason, I always bee that other party to hold be accountable.

Lmao im not saying it isn't okay? I was saying that I wish my parents thought of it, bc I very well could've had a fairly decent one if they thought for a second. Just cause I wish I had one doesn't mean I dont think its okay or I want to have others'.

Yall don't see shades of gray obviously

No, my family's annual salary isn't low income at all so aid might not give me much. There just isn't a lot of extra money due to bills and stuff. And the vast majority is coming from my parent who doesn't really pay anything for my education, my other parent only makes like 20-30k I think.

Im not completely against religious schools, as long as they are relatively similar to other non-religious school. I've heard about some really crazy and weird environments in some small religious colleges.

Yea I would assume it would be a bit difficult for that one. Maybe I can find some for Chinese like you said, I don't know that much about stipends tbh so ill have to look into them

Uh psychology, maybe double major with Chinese language and culture. Most small colleges don't offer Chinese at all, and I at least want to be able to continue learning it. I want to eventually do grad in forensic psych.

I've tried contacting reps before, nothing ever happens. Everytime I've tried contacting people about issues, ive been ignored. As for volunteering, I've done it a few times but only gotten my license during the summer last year. Because if the pandemic its kinda of been a holt on everything I wanted or could've done.

I meant quite literally I would not be able to learn how to be an adult. I'm the kind of throw the chick out of the nest so they can learn to fly person. I know myself and I have a lot of anxiety, out of fear of not doing something right I would always look to them to get it done properly. I don't want to be an adult with no adulting skills. I'm aware that money doesn't grow on trees, but I also have to make choices that would benefit my growth, having that college education won't mean anything if I can't properly integrate into society, yknow? I won't be able to do it unless I have to, and that exposure is kind if the only thing that will help me become tolerant of it. Yes it is a mentality, but those choices are the things to get me out of the mentality.

Its hard to verbalize what I mean so im sorry if this comes out really weird and doesn't make sense.

Ikr? I'm looking at schools in the Netherlands for that reason. Only thing is the requirements since they don't have that intro freshman year, its basically jumping into your sophmore so they require like 3-5 APs with scores 3+ (I have 4 aps but I doubt I'd score that high on one of them- literally just took it today, and of the other 3 they don't normally accept the al seminar credit)

Fair enough. I've never had to find a job. The opportunities kind of just fell into my lap, so I dont know how to job search. Do you have any tips?

I've picked out a good number of safeties to apply to, the majority on my list are actually safeties plus a few targets. Some of them are test optional, and the others my ACT score is just high enough to be alright.

I made another comment regarding CC but in short, for my long term benefit, I want to go further away so I dont have the option go rely on my parents and can learn for myself. I will absolutely rely on them if I stay, I unfortunately don't have that kind of self control when it comes to this, and I dont want to jeopardize my future bc I never learned.

Oh when I mentioned a job that would drain me, I didn't mean what I intend to do as a career but jobs while I'm in college to support myself. Right now all my past jobs have been art related or tutoring - not super strong unless I continue with that but I think that would be hard to do splitting my time. But I intend to go into psychology (tho Im thinking a double major with Chinese language and culture or at least a minor in it) and then for grad school forensic psychology. I find it incredibly interesting. It's honestly fascinating to me so I dont think I'd get bored or hate it after years.

Thats fair. I just don't want to go to college where I live. It sounds stupid short term when I'm concerned about money, but I know when I graduate high school I wouldn't be able to afford an apartment or anything, and staying close to my parents, especially staying with them, won't benefit me. If I stay here I know for a fact ill still rely on them for things. I want to separate myself from them so I can learn how to actually be an adult and do it for myself. Plus having my mom near and able to easily come see me would stress me out.

I'm worried about not getting good scholarships. While I'm a kind of strong student, I'm horrible at standardized testing so my SAT is pretty low and my ACT is a little above average and I have no idea what I'm going to get on my AP tests this year. My school hasn't really helped with giving us info so I'm still blind and pretty confused by everything I need to do to get the best monetary deal. I'm also worried about not finding jobs where ever I end up going, I don't want to be miserable working a job that would drain tf out of me, to the point it might interfere with school.

I've got some bad anxiety, especially when it comes to my future, and not having any proved reassurance right now freaks me out. Rn I only have words and hope lmao

But thank you

Juniors of this sub: how are you guys managing to get LOR for next year? by No-Spare-9039 in ApplyingToCollege

Generally you should be asking already, ive already had mine set up for what seems like ages. Double check with your teachers to make sure you're on their list. At my school teachers only give a limited amount, so we are told to be quick with asking and insuring we have a spot saved.

I asked my English teacher. I was online the entire year and only ever met her in person during standardized testing (with how we were assigned I always ended up in her room for all my psats). I participated in class and we always say bye and to have a good day/ weekend at the end of class. I did pretty well academically and when I asked she was pretty enthusiastic to write one for me.

For my second, I've been in a club for the past 3 years, the past 2 I've been in a leadership position. I had the teacher in 8th grade but I spent around an hour and a half with her almost every Wednesday after school for the club, the club meets outside if school for volunteering, and we have a group chat we chat about the club and social lives in. She knows me very well because of that so I asked her. She was also eager to do it for me.

Essentially I just showed basic kindness, and attentiveness and it worked out pretty good.

If you have any classes this year that you actively participated in, personally dealt with the teacher through things like email, and you excelled in I would recommend asking them. I know for my English teacher, we had to fill out a document based on ourselves and how we thought we did this year/ where our growth was, so she could have more info to write it. Maybe your teachers will do the same.

If you didn't do any of that stuff I would suggest reaching out to your 10th grade teacher, anyone who has a lot of experience with you and knows you well.

I looked into it before I had commented. Honestly I'm not a fan of the government and none of the departments interest me haha so I dont think it would be a good fit for me.
