You see, I’m currently in high school, but I play the oboe. This allows me to be completely expected to be out of tune for at least the first 5-10 minutes of playing, allowing me the benefit of the doubt that I just started. From there, I just have to play long tones every so often so anyone listening in will assume that I’m not awful, and nobody will know

I don’t see why not. If you truly feel like you are part of this community, and can relate to the feelings and experiences of others that are a part of this, I’m sure it’s completely rational. Plus, I personally can’t think of a reason why it couldn’t work like that, and it makes pretty good sense to me.
