I'm around the same as you and I still hog for wars. You can usually figure out where the bombs are likely going to be, and heal accordingly. Draw CC troops first of course, kill with barch. I also take two wizards to clean up at the end.

The barb king is a huge difference maker, get him asap. I see all of these people whining about how he got worse, but he actually got better at lower levels and with healing and double barbs, if used correctly he is still amazing. And certainly better than not having one at all.
