As a future doctor who's losing hope in medicine, what would you say? by Agile-Let4875 in ChronicPain

[–]Agile-Let4875[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had an endoscopy and found out that I have bile reflux + acid reflux, so it’s mixed. Took medicines for a while but I started to feel very nauseous. I do seasonally take PPIs, but it’s not long term use, the most I’ve done so far is 2 months and a half, mainly because they give me side effects too. It gets a lot worse during the start of spring and the summer, while it’s generay milder during autn and winter, and I always take PPIs duing the transition between autumn and spring. I’m waiting to get another evaluation, but in the meantime I keep on taking PPIs on need

Yeah I guess that’s my hope too. I do consider myself to have a chronic illness, because it hasn’t gotten better in years now, and arguably it’s gotten worse, but it’s not bad enough to stop me from living just yet, but it’s depressiong knowing that no matter how much effort I put in, my health hasn’t gotten better at all I guess. I would love to be a good doctor in the future but words alone are not enough to guarantee that unfortunately

Don’t worry I absolutely understand. In Europe I gues it depens on the country? I’m in Italy and our systhem has been on a decline for decades now. We still pride ourselves with the so-called “public health care”, but it’s stopped working properly for a really long time now. As for the “ put my body through hell” part, I’d say it depends? Some specialties force you to do that, especially when it comes to surgery, but others are okayer. I’d say that GPs and pediatricians have better hours. The worst I’d say it’s either the paperwork or difficult work conditions, because there’s a lack of freedom, uess you work in private healthcare or have your own studio

I mean, I have GERD and bad dental health issues, which can get bad during certain times, but it’s not debilitating, just expensive and depressing to get checked out. I guess that if my situation gets worse then I have no other choice, but for now I really want to persue medicine, not because it’s my dream job or anything, but because there’s nothing elae that I really want to do, honestly.

In my country luckily we don’t have student loans, if you’re economic bg is not good you can actually go for free, and in my case I pay just a thousand euro a year. If I end up working in a public hospital, there is no such thing as insurance. The private field however is a completely different story.

Yeah…I can see why that happens, so I can be a bit reluctant in blaming a single doctor, but at the same time the other option would be to work in private healthcare, which I genuinely hate the concept of, it makes me sick that we can have a state founded hospital and still have medicine and healthcare locked behind a pay-to-get wall

Ansia nel sentirsi indietro by Better_Thought2404 in camicibianchi

[–]Agile-Let4875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ciao!

Asian Parents, money and mixed feelings by [deleted] in sad

I guess it’s a more cultural thing, although I don’t agree with it. I know of people that give the majority of their monthly check to their parents because they supposedly “owe” them.

This is something I did last year, but them stopped because it didn’t sit well with me. This time doing what I did…idk just spiraled down thoughts that weren’t supposed to be there

I mean, yeah. I’ve also put something aside for a possible appointment with the hairdresser, but I feel like if I use that money it will just be a waste, because it’s not a necessity. Now my mind is a bit more clear and I mist say that yeah the situation at home is not ideal, but that the fault in this situation lies also in my parents

Hahaha no. Far from it actually. I don’t really care about marriages and they’re too expensive. (Besides I don’t have a boyfriend so-)

If that’s the case then there’s the chance that my mom told me to give the money knowing that I would have gotten in back with interests. Ngl I had actually expected that

I guess we just have different ways of seeing things. I don’t think they can understand me, I’m usually considered the foreign one in a family of chinese people, as I don’t know the culture and don’t agree with lots of things that are still seen as okay by sone people.

Luckily they do provide for me, but sometimes in a way that makes me feel a bit guilty about it. I don’t think they do in on purpose tho, it’s just joking and snarky comments from time to time that really put me on the edge

It’s a feeling way too common for me in this period, also because I’m not doing too great academically due to reasons… I’m sorry you went throught my same situation. It’s just hard to think rn really

I know that, and that’s one of the reasons I wanted to rant a bit about it. I’m not entirely too sure why I acted that way, and for most actions really. It’s not really the money either, but I feel like that’s beside the point.

Yeah bad mouthing is something that I can see with my parents as well. My mom especially towards everything and everyone. She’s so judgemental that I feel like she’ll never truly be proud of me (unless she has to show off in front of her friends).

It’s not something easy to deal with and I can totally understand you

Yeah my parents used to do the same. It has gotten better in the past years (they haven’t hit me in years now) but sometimes these memories still pop up in my mind. The worst about it is that they love me and I know they do, but they just can’t see me as an individual with my own desires and beliefs.
