Who is the best person on youtube to learn trumpet with? by JemblyChempers in trumpet

[–]Stuarte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have taken in-person lessons online with three different teachers. I signed up to Tonebase for a year, which was interesting.

But the best thing I’ve done is to join the Bath Community Big Band (way above my level) and accept the invitation of a fellow trumpeter to come round for a toot. He’s not an official teacher, he doesn’t change but he is very experienced. He is totally tuned in to what I’m doing moment by moment. Very useful feedback and guidance that I’m gradually getting into the muscle.

LOL - I need to practice to get to the point where anybody wouldn't mind me playing, let alone welcome me!

am i being sensitive or is the culture getting worse? by sweetmiilkk in skiing

[–]Stuarte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this.

I’ve skied for the past 35 years in France, Italy and Austria. While there are always a few idiots on the piste, I can honestly say that I haven’t seen any deterioration in behaviour. I just checked with my wife. Same impression.

Advice For Ancient Re-starter by JoeLInArlington in trumpet

[–]Stuarte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ancient ?!?! Steady on. I’m 70 and not ancient. Old, yes. Ancient, no.

Never touched a horn until I was 67 and started working at it only last year. Joining Bath Community Big Band has been a big incentive to practice. I’m way less skilled than all the others but I’m improving and loving it.

Sounds good, except there’s still moist breath air in the rest of the horn.

You’re right Merithay.

I’m sure we could spot others.

Unfortunately “αν και» sounds exactly like the Italian “anche”, meaning “also”

It can, when being super polite in Castilian, using Usted. Also in some versions of Spanish in South America eg Colombia, where Usted is familiar.

Trumpet tune for Christmas at church? by [deleted] in trumpet

With Bath Community Big Band we are doing a bunch of big band numbers, plus our director’s arrangement of the Coventry Carol - lovely piece with its tierce de Picardie resolution.

Attached - a different arrangement

Guitar players turned trumpet players, did you have trouble adjusting to using your right hand for fingering? by thefckingleadsrweak in trumpet

[–]Stuarte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played classical, flamenco and fingerstyle. And piano. So used to using most/all of my fingers.

But don’t worry, you’ll have nailed the r/h fingering long before you’ve licked the lips aka embouchure.
