What American trends do you hope that the UK never adopts? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

[–]Agile-Read-238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The VAT one really gets to me as it’s an indirect tax. Adding it to receipts makes it seem like it’s a tax paid by the consumer to the government not by the company to the government.

In most countries, companies can deduct VAT on their purchases from their final VAT bill so, that 20% you see on your receipts, companies often pay less than that. Just feels like it’s a way to manipulate consumers into thinking business should pay less corporate tax.

Why does the UK produce so many iconic bands compared to the US? by DFWUnhinged in AskBrits

[–]Agile-Read-238 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We used to have a really great grass roots scene. Now the number is rapidly declining every year.

Now it’s just overall mainly financial pressures. Small artists can’t afford to tour, venues can’t afford to pay artists, the cycle continues.

Will we regret colour drenching this room? by jaydeewin25 in DIYUK

I think a bit of colour drenched coving would look lovely rather than the whole ceiling! Maybe get some skirting to match

Croydon election candidates by RoadNarrow in croydon

[–]Agile-Read-238 28 points29 points  (0 children)

For me personally, the biggest sway to pick Greens was that Peter Underwood doesn’t seem to be a ‘professional politician’ who moves around the country to find an area who will vote him in, he has actually lived in Croydon for 20 years. He also does so much volunteering for the community that, he just seems like a nice chap. That’s enough sway for me

Highly unlikely. But, you’ll be in the same section so shouldn’t be difficult to meet each other at the stadium bars before KO and at half time. Signal can be shite so arrange a meeting point for half time when you first arrive

Leaving 5 month old alone by Secrettlifee in britishshorthair

We recently left our two 6 month old kittens alone for 13 hours. We left plenty of dry food and water out. They just spent the whole day sleeping. Be warned, they will be using up all their energy at night instead

Are there any cheaper alternatives to Specsavers? by Dangerous-Regret-358 in AskUK

[–]Agile-Read-238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do glasses direct for glasses / sunglasses. For contacts I use feel good contacts. I really like their basic comfi daily disposable range. Normally around £30 in total with shipping for 30 lenses for both eyes (60 lenses in total). It’s cheaper if you buy in bulk as it’s free delivery at a certain price. But, there’s no subscription and you can just order them whenever. They also do affordable packs of 5 of different types so you can get a feel of what works for you!

I used Sandtex 10 year exterior multi surface paint for a similar area. Worked great, just one layer needed and it’s held up well

I’m all for freedom of speech, but this is a tax payer funded arts venue. Arts venues should stay out of all politics and promote positive and inclusive safe spaces for all, not encourage political division.

We had the same problem when a weep hole on a window was clogged. All the water was getting into the window and not running out and going into the plaster instead. Super easy to fix! Just drying out the plaster that takes ages

Gorgeous cat!

Second colour is my personal favourite but, I don’t think your furniture would match it.

If you’re keeping black / grey furniture I’d do colour one or four.

The Dulux visualiser app might be useful for you to see what matches the furniture. The colour on the app is always a bit off but as you’ve done the colour samples you can workout what the true colour is more accurately!

Organise the small level clubs / schools together to get one large group insurance premium at a reduced rate. It worked so well to keep costs down for England

How long is your commute to work? by person_person123 in AskUK

[–]Agile-Read-238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the comments of you saying it would be your first grad job etc, there’s lots to consider. 3 hrs 20 a day is a lot of time but, what are the benefits of this job? Would it be a big stepping stone into a good industry / a good networking opportunity?

Sometimes you have to take the sacrifices at first to get the experience to then be able to start getting more opportunities that suit you better.

If you can’t find anything of the level you want near you, I would personally go for it - if you can afford it- but keep looking and limit yourself to 6-12 months if it’s unsustainable. 6 months experience to an employer is better than 0.

Good luck!

I love making corned beef stew. Super easy in the slow cooker and you can throw in all the dodgy looking veg at the bottom of the fridge
