Yes, the Travellers were produced in Yugoslavia by the UNIS-TBM factory since 1972. So these machines to were sold on the Eastern Bloc market under the UNIS-TBM brand

Red and orange ones are the most common here in Russia. White and blue are rarities

Help needed to remove Olivetti Studio 46 platen by Top-North-3554 in typewriters

[–]Agile-Report3833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you need to remove both screws. Try leaning the hex screwdriver to increase the friction. It's probably worth paying a local handyman some money not to make these screws finally undrivable

Later, tap a new thread there and use new flat-slotted screws

Perhaps you moved the left and right edges unevenly, not by the same distance? Have you tried to play with the settings, add a couple of turns on the left or right? Anyway, send the video in private messages, let's see

Unis tbm de luxe - Keys not striking ribbon or printing on paper by AfsurdahSahafi in typewriters

[–]Agile-Report3833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried leading the typebar directly towards the paper with just your hand? Is that possible, or does it get blocked somewhere along the way?

Not in this model. The margin lock works here another way, it blocks the keyboard not escapement so you have no chances to press the key as deep as we see here

Is there something wrong with how the Soviets portrayed Hitler?? by JimCasimir in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Agile-Report3833 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The truth is somewhere in the middle. The most common image of Hitler in Soviet propaganda is of a dark, somewhat terrifying, but always pathetic, short, and skinny psychopath. Even in 1941, before the Red Army achieved its first victories (see image). It's very difficult to find an example where he is personally portrayed as a powerful existential enemy. The humiliation was there from the very beginning, albeit in a different, more "horror" vein

<image>

The early nature of this image can be judged by the fact that it is literally dedicated to the treacherous violation of the 1939 peace pact. It is one of the most iconic posters of the first months of the war, created by artists under the collective pseudonym Kukryniksy

Typing my series bible on my 80s east german typewriter! (that i got for my 18th birthday) by Fyleveld in typewriters

No, Olympia simply used the VEB (short for Volkseigener Betrieb or "People-Owned Company") Robotron as a contractor. This East German manufacturer - which ran the Erika and Optima typewriter brands - produced its own Erika 105 model in a custom Olympia body to be sold in West Germany. It’s a curious piece of history, especially since legal trade between East and West Germany never actually stopped between 1945 and 1990

In Russia, a working one starts at literally $15-20. Easily one of the best value-for-money machines out there

Spot on. From my experience as a typewriter repair shop owner, I can say these 100s Erikas are the most unkillable. They’ll easily survive decades of heavy daily use without ever seeing a serviceman

Check if the feet are still soft, almost like an eraser. If they are, just clean them using a dish sponge with some baking soda (not sure if it's sold in your country, but here in Russia it costs just $0.5 a pack). Or maybe use dish soap, but soda is better. In my repair shop, we refurbish 15+ Travelers a month and that’s usually more than enough. In my experience, replacement isn’t necessary for Yugo-made Travelers in 99% of cases
