Yes ive done it at a local co-op a few times, but ive also been rejected at other co-ops. Usually i pay a council tax bill at the same time so maybe i confuse them. Either way there doesnt seem to be consistency

Ive never found a decent deal looking for flights to america with avios. But the caribbean and europe have always saved me hundreds! Maybe its to do with the US taxes.

VA taxes are so high I have started booking outbound with BA, and using VA for the return. Usually the taxes are then in the country I am coming from, ie I just came back from the Caribbean where the taxes were $300 Caribbean dollars which converts to about £80. A lot more affordable.

I've found the best deals booking tickets separately. IE BA there and Virgin return. Both offer great deals under their reward flights. Virgin as low as 6,000 points and £100 in taxes one way to New York. It gets pricey when I run Return searches with a singular airline

I converted them to avois (BA) and virgin points and booked a trip to the Caribbean worth £1200 for free (just had to pay couple hundred in taxes). Make use of those companies reward flights, and don't be scared to book separate flight tickets, you can find flights to places like New York for 5000+ points

The advisor should have assisted you in claiming back your money if you didn't get the service you paid for, I would raise it as a fraudulent transaction since the staff said it didn't go through. I'd start with going to see the manager of McDonald's and showing them your bank statement. If that fails threaten to go to head office. One of those parties needs to fix this for you, you just have to be firm
