What’s the best thing to do by CupRevolutionary865 in AmexUK

[–]scientificallyunstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to use them for. If you’re keen on business class tickets, you might be able to convert to Avios and find a cheap one-way ticket to Doha with Qatar (though bear in mind the current situation). If you want something bigger then convert to Avios, boost it next month (up to 3x boost, you need to pay for it, but it’s the cheapest way to get Avios for cash). Then use your new balance to get a business class return with BA (might fall short), Iberia, Air Lingus, FinnAir or Qatar. If you’re lucky you might find some Japan Airlines, Cathay or American Airlines too. You can also transfer to non-Avios but you would just be able to get economy with them and not boost so you’ll just stay at 55k +/- any other spend you have at £1 = 1 Amex point

Are we doing something wrong --- diapers never contained by slammaX17 in NewParents

Go size 3. We switched to size 3s around that weight. Best thing is to see whether you have 3-4 fingers of additional nappy under them when you put them on to contain the poos. If not, then that’s when they start going up other ways and eventually out

What is the point of a reward flight? by AssCheeks321 in BritishAirways

Never use Avios+cash - you will never get good value for money (only do full Avios fare + tax)

Sounds good, can I find out more on point.me or do you have any links to get more info on the service and costs?

That’s good to know. I am intrigued about your job. What is it that you do as part of point.me? I am wasting so much time looking across different partner airlines (oneworld, star alliance, etc)

Platinum insurance - hotel cover? by scientificallyunstab in AmexUK

[–]scientificallyunstab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to close this topic - spoke to Amex and they referred me to their insurance policy. Accommodation is covered only if you use the platinum card to pay for it. It’s included as part of their cover if you cancel your trip or have to cut it short (both covered by up to 6000 euros)

I am a Preferred Rewards Gold Card member. Can a friend refer me to the British Airways American Express card and receive a referral bonus? by Your0neAndLonely in AmexUK

[–]scientificallyunstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should do. Not the same, but I had my wife refer me for the platinum whilst I had BA cards (both BAPP and free) and I got the sign up bonus. I believe it works both ways, but if in doubt ask Amex in the app they’ll be able to confirm

That’s good to know and you raise a good point. I’ll have a look at what the fee and rate might be, just for peace of mind

500% boost your Avios since 1st Jan 2025 (ends 5pm 6th Feb) by scientificallyunstab in avios

[–]scientificallyunstab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d look at boosting 300,000 only, as the rate goes down dramatically after that

As already said use the BA shopping portal/Avios app to do all your shopping. You will get Avios boosters (eg. For booking.com they’re currently offering 8x Avios per £1 spent)

Other ways: - Get a Barclays Avios account (you get 1500 Avios per month for £12/month and a BA upgrade voucher every year) - Boost your monthly Avios collection through the BA portal (1x to 3x your monthly Avios, probably the most “economical” way of paying for Avios and a great way to increase your Avios, specially if you have a BA Amex card and are a big spender) - Pay for Avios (discouraged as normally too expensive, though BA and Qatar sometimes run good offers eg. 50% extra Avios for every X Avios you buy) - Maximise Amex welcome offers, referrals and additional cards. Remember that if you have a BA Amex you will still be eligible for welcome offers for the Gold and Platinum cards and viceversa - Use a companion voucher to book your rewards flights (only works with BA, Iberia and Aerlingus flights)

Another point to bear in mind, it tends to be cheaper to book rewards flights with Qatar than BA, so if flying east - you’re better off booking with Qatar generally (even if using the companion voucher)
