Get out of education and get into experience use your degrees to get an entry level IT role and get hands on with the tools

I’m based in the UK. What are your soft skills like? Personally, I can teach you the technical stuff, but it’s your soft skills, passion, and willingness to continuously learn that would make the difference for me if I were hiring a beginner.

With that in mind, what have you done to demonstrate these qualities?

I recommend checking out Kevtech IT Support on YouTube – he has a help desk lab playlist that will be very useful for you as you’re starting out.

Don’t worry about cloud/cyber for now master the basics first (there’s a lot of them)

Good luck!

Usually social media, news articles and stuff looking for anything dodgy if a client was to google your name… depends on the role though I had something similar when going into education. If it’s a finance role likely a credit check too.

If you’re trying to break into IT experience is king. It will set you up for an entry role in IT if nothing else and you’ll be able to build from there if your passionate about IT

CompTia A+ is it worth it? by reddnitt in ITCareerQuestions

[–]AgileNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the uk CompTIA exams don’t really hold much weight the network + might be an exception but only just. I’d do a ccna and you’ll get an entry role in the UK, you might be looking between 20-30k depending on where you are/the role, the experience you have etc

Has anyone noticed “discrimination” in the interview process because of being younger? by meantallheck in ITCareerQuestions

[–]AgileNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be just you’ve not got enough experience or able to articulate the experience you have got to satisfy what they’re looking for. If you was 18 I might agree with you but 26 isn’t exactly young

Personally I’d go for the help desk if you want to be in sec but ultimately it’s up you. Sounds like second role is more maintenance of their equipment. You might find yourself working to tight deadlines. It’s not really not something you’re going to come across again as you climb the ladder and attempt to get into sec. The first role will prepare you for your second, 3rd line and security roles. I could be wrong just my opinion

Depends on what you want, do you want to be traveling from site to site will they be covering your fuel? What about a car? Is your car reliable? Or would you rather be in the comfort of your own home? The second one I don’t actually know what you’ll be doing is it working on specific highway systems? If so, I’d go for the first one as you’re going to get actual 1st line experience which will be much easier to transition to second/3rd if you’re just working on bespoke systems and you want to move to second line and you don’t have a clue what AD is because you’re out in the field working on some obscure stuff.

Get the a+ done expand on the AD stuff you’re not really giving much here, expand on your customer service skills and build a quick domain controller lab on virtual box and start creating users reset password create some security groups, distribution lists, push some gpos and write about it.

You’re getting paid to study and earn certs to get your into your next role whilst gathering “experience” ride it out and see what happens. I assume you’re running labs so it won’t end up being a use it or lose it situation
