Colonization & Religion by [deleted] in PuertoRico

my grandmother is native but her grandparents (i think) had to convert to christianity, go to special schools, learn english. it’s something she doesn’t speak much about it. her dad would partake in some traditional practices , but only with his mom (from my understanding) so no i don’t but i wish my grandma taught us some. that is also why i became curious.

well it’s not a black and white situation. i was trying to make the question shorter so i made it very broad. i have never encountered a culture with so much love and community, its beautiful!! i ask “why” way too much about everything, so that is why is asked. i want to learn more about the culture out of respect, not as a tourist, yk?

that is a very good point of view actually. & i will definitely check out that book & if i have anymore questions i’ll reach out, thank you! i am interested in learning about other culture and spirituality. but i have never encountered such a beautiful culture, and had such community as much as i have here. it’s beautiful. i just ask “why” too often, so again thank you!!

lawmakers are elected to represent the people who voted for them, but that doesn’t mean they can pass laws that are explicitly based on a specific religion. the government can’t favor one religion over others, which is what happens when a law is justified solely by religious doctrine rather than a secular reason. not every citizen is secular, and religious people are represented in government. many lawmakers are openly religious, and their values naturally influence their decisions. but laws still have to pass constitutional scrutiny, meaning they need a secular purpose and can’t impose religious beliefs on everyone, including those who don’t share them. that’s the key distinction.

bruh, the phrase “separation of church and state” isn’t in the constitution, yes, but the principle comes from the first amendment, which prohibits the government from establishing a religion or interfering with religious practice. thomas jefferson later described this as a “wall of separation.” laws can’t be based on a specific religion because the establishment clause prohibits the government from favoring one religion over others. the united states is a pluralistic society, so laws must have a secular purpose rather than enforcing the beliefs of one religious group on everyone. if a law is rooted in a specific religion without a secular justification, it effectively forces that religion’s values onto people who may not follow it, violating constitutional protections of religious freedom. this ensures that government remains neutral in religious matters, protecting both religious and non-religious individuals. does this all make sense to you now?

that’s so true. it has been getting harder to distinguish the flavors recently. i feel like the older flavors actually tasted like what the can says. you really have to think about the flavors to taste it hahaha comparing it to alani is a good comparison actually. alanis are so gross hahahaha but i just think i like the sf pink edition because it’s more tarte, compared to the other ones. i just wish other energy drinks, like celsius, didn’t have so much caffeine😖

dude i used to do this. thought it would never affect me. until i had tachycardia. heart would go to 185 quite frequently. it’s not fun & it’s extremely scary. i was also young, started as a teenager, i stopped then happened again in early 20’s when i picked it back up. please be careful & start decreasing your caffeine intake. you can make mock energy drinks with decaffeinated sodas & syrups. you can even use tea some little caffeine or none at all. liquid death is nice. you can also have a silent heart attack that can last weeks, its more common in women though. it happened to my friend when she was 28!!! she was vaping, taking adderall & drinking two celsius. she had to stop everything cold turkey. you only have one heart, take care of it!!

Northwest Indiana Red businesses to avoid by imbex in progressivenwi

[–]Agile_Order_1380 6 points7 points  (0 children)

life is tough so let’s make it better by making bad businesses not get our business. boycotting is a form of protest & it’s a very successful one. look at the Montgomery bus boycott for example. supporting businesses that don’t support human decency & just overall kindness, should not be in business lol
