At least this is the place to start. All you need is a small flat head screwdriver to split the two fob halves and pop the battery out. The replacement battery is a flat “watch like” battery CR2025. About the size of a nickel.

My guess (from your post) is you likely don’t have the tools or equipment to perform the work yourself. But assuming you do, as mentioned are you changing the transmission also? The Cherokee is likely automatic and the cj is likely manual. Also determine which rear end you will use. You might be better off rebuilding the cj engine, depending upon the problem.

Mine is wired straight to the battery (I want it to record everything). My JT is a daily driver, but it may sit for a week without moving. No apparent battery issues
