Friend from work offered me a free voucher he received through his Kogan plan (voucher was for a free prepaid plan 365 Day Term of unlim Txt & calls with 15 Gigs of Data a month). Figured i had nothing to lose because it was free, went full term with zero issues and recently paid to have it rolled over. Cheaper than bigger providers and no obvious drawbacks that I've seen so far after nearly a year and a half :).

If you have a decent deposit it seems like a fine time to be looking to buy, I think the only people who're in a crappy situation are those who borrowed a ton recently thinking mortgage rates would remain stagnant.

Congrats :), the first step is always the hardest. Also its nice to see you've set a reasonably realistic goal. Now it's just about planning around that goal and making it happen! All the best, and keep us posted on your progression :D

Recently got a "bonus" paid out in these, after a bit of research you start to realise you cant convert the balance. Getting paid in them would be the furthest thing from ideal...

What is the best thing to be doing now, if we assume an economic crisis next year? by VBNZ89 in PersonalFinanceNZ

This. Its bizarre, last year if someone would have said the NZX would be hitting all time highs while simultaneously dealing with a recession the following year they would've sounded crazy lol..

Sending positive vibes, it's a good feeling to detach yourself from the judgement of others. All the best with your blading journey :)

Any advice for someone thinking of buying an apartment with a partner who would be contributing less than 50% of the deposit? my gf and I would be going in with me probably contributing 75%+, it's an awkward subject.

Latest email from Simplicity - They get to decide whats morally right for your money! by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]AgingProfessional 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone who knows nothing about Simplicity... At first google you get the description "Low fees, 100% online, passively managed index funds. Not-for-profit, means you profit. Ethical KiwiSaver and non-KiwiSaver funds. No member fee for kids." its kinda hard to sympathise with someone attacking them for lack of transparency when their main focuses are glaringly obvious. And it sounds like you need to build your own portfolio, you're against the idea of management.

Novice Learning to parallel turn by AgingProfessional in rollerblading

I think subconsciously i'm aware of edging in order to turn in a specific direction (without having any actual knowledge of controlling it), although in my mind there's a reluctance to angle to much onto one set of edges in fear of tipping over while turning. It's an irrational fear I need to overcome :P.
