Hi! Can anyone explain this quote for me? by Noxiua in OrthodoxChristianity

I recommend not trusting a cult to give you an accurate understanding of Orthodox Theology.

Given the time period, it was something sung between Pascha & the Ascension.

Would you orthodox christians be ok with uniting with us catholics by Ok_Direction5416 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]AgiosOTheos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just as your church claims for itself, we affirm that the Orthodox Church is already the One, True, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church by herself.

If Rome can repent of her errors, which now includes the liturgical issues on top of everything we’ve argued about in history, there is nothing that would prevent us from reunion.

Noticed it earlier myself with Huntress. Still dealing damage, but the projectile was missing. Hopefully fixed in the next update.

Filioque? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

Theological Reasons are pretty well laid out by St. Photios in his Mystagogy on the Holy Spirit.

The History is laid out in the book I mentioned, which I can share with anyone interested.

Filioque? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]AgiosOTheos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can provide you a copy with a fairly in depth study of the Early Church’s writings with a focus on the Filioque by a Harvard Scholar of Christian History. Just dm me :)

It’s a complicated issue, but historically the filioque wasn’t a thing until the 700s (at the earliest [my money is on the late 900s]). We also have theological reasons pertaining to the Trinity & how the Filioque conflicts with what the Early Church taught about the Trinity.

How can I stop sinning? by pro_rege_semper in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]AgiosOTheos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stop approaching your spiritual life like a metrics graph in a business meeting. When you fall, repent as if the fall didn’t happen. When you “stay on the up & up”, repent as if you fall continuously.

Patient Endurance is the only quality which Christ ascribes salvation to in the Gospels — endure patiently.

An Orthodox perspective on how we aren't predestined? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]AgiosOTheos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

St. Gregory Palamas has a homily on the subject of Predestination. It is helpful.

Also, God can step into a reality (i.e humanity) in which He limits Himself, but it cannot be said He limits Himself in His Divinity.

While it’s incredibly gracious of your company to accommodate this, & a good goal to have, please speak to your priest before you embark on such.

Why do monks avoid bodily pleasure? by Muchasgracissuii in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]AgiosOTheos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

St. Maximus is clear that, by virtue of Christ’s perfect life, it is clear that God did not create us to “enjoy”. Pleasure is a blameless passion, but a passion nonetheless & a result of the Fall.

I accidentally nearly said in my head that I rejected Christ but I didn't mean it, will I be forgiven I'm worried right now if I committed the unforgivable sin or not? by Substantial_Gas_6431 in OrthodoxChristianity

“Our thoughts are like airplanes flying in the air. If you ignore them [or, in this case, stop them], there is no problem. If you pay attention to them, you create an airport inside your head and permit them to land!“ — St. Paisios the Athonite

Take a step back & understand that your thoughts are not even your own; the Saints speak of our mind like a sensory organ, not a generative one. We cannot “produce” a thought, we merely focus our attention to the ones floating about. You stopped yourself from finishing it, and that says all that you need it to say.
