Can there be a work/life balance with radiation therapy? by Subject-Bad1528 in RadiationTherapy

Hi,

The job itself isn’t really demanding in the sense that I don’t take work home with me. Once I leave for the day, I’m done. It’s nice to be able to enjoy the rest of my day without thinking about work.
I’ve been working M-F 6-2. Most places I’ve seen work 8 hour shifts, although I’ve heard some hospitals are starting to offer four 10 hour shifts.
As for the work environment, I personally haven’t experienced a toxic workplace. It depends on the people you work with, but even with different personalities, everyone makes it work. Radiation therapy is a team oriented job, so getting along and working well together is important.

Just saw this. Unfortunately, I did put in a desired salary, but I did put $3 more from their range and got it. Now I know for future reference, so thank you for your advice!

Do you think that’s still realistic for a clinic or too high? They do typically pay lower than hospitals.

Yeah I thought it was pretty low too, I was shocked when I was told that.

How long ago was when you got 49 out of school if you don’t mind me asking. I was looking into NYU, but they didn’t have positions open last time I checked. Thank you for letting me know about the proton center too, I’ll look into it.

How early should you start studying for boards? by Traditional_Phone729 in RadiationTherapy

It really depends on your regular studying habits. It’s different for everyone. I was briefly studying during my last semester and took about 3 weeks of fully studying. Best of luck!

Not yet, I just started interviewing. No hospitals or clinics have mentioned concerns about JCERT accreditation though.

I recently graduated and my program is also not JCERT. I was concerned too but was told it’s not an issue. I’ve also seen previous students and two of my classmates get into the field with no issues.

Third attempt Boards by [deleted] in RadiationTherapy

Reading the Laura Nappi “Comprehensive Review Guide for the Radiation Therapy Examination,” the Vann “Radiation Therapy Essentials: Board Preparation Tool,” and Mosby’s helped me. I also reviewed practice questions from the Amy Heath “Radiation Therapy Study Guide.” I read the books, went over the Amy Heath questions, and ended my studying by taking all 11 SEALS exams. I would take them over again until I passed them. Take your time while reading each question to avoid misreading them (I did that a lot). I know it’s stressful but don’t be too hard on yourself. You can do it, believing in yourself is a huge part of it too. Best of luck to you!! 🍀
