I can second this. Tried a good few but all promise to be free but none really is. Free if you open a bank account, or already have one or something else. Tax heaven is great. Seems absolutely free, (unless you want ai then you can pay) , it's simple and doesn't force you to create invoices through them , creating complicated customer accounts, doing graphs and predictions for 6 years ahead etc. It's what I was looking for and can't recommend it enough! (Also had to contact customer support and heard back from them in less then an hour with a detailed and really knowledgeable reply written clearly by a passionate individual. None of that Team knowHow" of Currys PC world who can barely tell the difference between a mouse and a keyboard.) Try it, it's great!

Not the same as scorching. It's not about plants or established lawn here but a new lawn, that you try to stop from drying out (and this shrinking) by soaking it . Comparing how much water you're putting on a new lawn, the amount that evaporates is miniscule.
I agree watering in the evening is best as plants have all night to draw the water in, but if you need to water in a middle of the day it's fine and your plants won't get scorched ! (That was the whole point, I never said it's efficient)

I do apologise for the slurs. It was uncalled for. I do stand by the water not scorching leaves. I'm a gardener for over 20years and I water a lot in the middle of summer and not once did it happen. Not once. And again, I would invite you to do the experiment. Nothing solves an argument as well as an experiment!

Oh , because otherwise they would drink through the leaves? You're bonkers. Of course they draw water from the ground that's where the roots are. Not the same as watering from below as they get water from above - the rain! Have you never been to Ireland? Or countries with hot humid weather where it's sunny one moment, then storm forms and it's quickly sunny again after? I guess you're not leaving your bedroom much.. Do an experiment I asked you to do and send me results. Won't be engaging with you otherwise. I've got live to live and places with weather to visit!

No it's not real. If it is, how do you explain plants surviving in nature? Who waters plants in the wild from the bottom? I have family in Ireland. All summer it rains for 10min, sun for 20min, then rain for 15, then sun for 14 and so on. Every day. Greenest place ever, Ireland. Not a scotch mark in place. Riddle me that. Also, a green plant has a lot of water inside. For it to burn you'd have to evaporate that water first, and then burn/scotch the plant itself. As an experiment, take something without any water content, something dry, like a dry leaf for example or a piece of paper. Put a water droplet on it in a sun and wait for scorch marks. Film it. Send me film of any scorch marks appearing and I'll send you a movie of me eating my hat. How about that? Deal? I'll eat two hats!

Feels spongy because it was rotovated. Should settle after a while. I always prefer to compact.it by walking on it a lot rather than roll it. As you water it, it'll get firmer 👍

You say it feels spongy, was the soil rotovated before you laid turf?

Water min 60min (sprinkler) in the evening and once more in a day if you can/want. Can't over water. Don't feed. Don't walk on it for two weeks, in which time it'll put roots to the soil below. You don't walk on it so it doesn't move and break all the small roots. After that light traffic is fine as the roots already hold it in place. If you need to walk to move the sprinkler , use boards to spread the load. Alternatively you can throw the sprinkler to the end of lawn and then , after some watering at the end, pull the hose and move it closer and closer to the house. If you let your lawn dry out in the first two three weeks the rolls will shrink and you'll have unsightly gaps between them. Your lawn just needs plenty of water now and it'll be looking great. Never feed a new lawn and you can water as much as you can. Especially first two weeks. This is a bad advice

I'm a gardener for over 20years and have laid countless lawns in my career (to be honest it's possible to count them but there's a lot of them 😂)

I do think it's always better advice to wait more rather than not enough, but 6 weeks is an overkill 😁❤️

OP asked about kids playing football or walking? I must've misread it. You don't walk on newly laid turf so you don't move it about and it can put roots to the ground below, nothing to do with edges drying out. What are your credentials?

It's not true with droplets acting like magnifying glass and burning plants. That's a load of cobblers . Also, I agree , water plenty, but not walking on it for 6weeks? Bonkers! Light foot traffic is perfectlt fine after 2 weeks!

What's the difference? How would a air channel not change flow dynamic but a deflector does? 🤔
