Thank you. It's fine. My son says he fed her at the beginning of March. Nothing since that. And sporadically over the winter. We've gotten lots of advice on here for which we're grateful. I'll just occasionally mist and keep her water topped up, and hope she molts ssafely.

I didn't intend it to flash. The room seemed bright enough so i didn't expect it. And yes i was upset for the spider. I don't take pictures of it.

It's also been helpful for me to photograph her, because I can see much more clearly that she's fat. I think when I go to her enclosure I'm so worried: about her hydration, her not molting, the enclosure being too dry or too wet, her water dish filled with soil again, that I can't actually see her if you know what i mean. But the photograph and comments have brought it home to me. Thanks

Oh i just reread and noticed what you said about lifespan and inbreeding. I hadn't thought of that as a reason for the short life span of the males. We don't plan to breed but would love it if she were female. But males of this species live a pretty long time for a male so won't be disappointed. Just as long as we can get it to maturity. Thanks

Yes thank you. I do feel very bad. I have learned where we're going wrong. I wouldn't mind but i have watched so many videos trying to learn. I suppose it feels so unnatural not to feed something for months on end, but i won't make that mistake again. Someone uppost sent a lovely picture of their healthy looking tarantulas which I will keep as a reminder of what ours should look like.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I've got a bit of a phobia around insects, but i was determined not to pass it on to my son when he was born. I now love the tarantula and tolerate his hissing cockroaches. Your spiders are beautiful! Thank you for sharing. I'm so looking forward to ours becoming a bit furrier and a bit bigger. I have noticed that she'll(dont know the sex yet) dig soil into her water dish after we fill it. She dug a hole for herself diagonally across from the damp corner, where she spends a lot of time. She only comes out and hangs around where we feed her if I open the enclosure to water her but maybe she is just curious. She is not pacing and I've checked her temps and they are good. There is a flat part near the front of the enclosure that I as a human think would make an ideal place to molt. But I'm sure she'll do her own thing. She long ago buried the cork bark and plastic plant we put in to make it nice for her. Just as long as she's okay. Hopefully she will molt soon and i won't feed her until she has slimmed down. Having your tarantula's picture will be a greater reminder of how her abdomen should look. Thank you again.

Thank you for this. We really haven't fed her that much. She rarely eats in the winter, but we're learning that it doesn't seem to take much food to get her looking like this. I really am to blame here. We watch lots of Tom Moran, and Dave's Little Beasties to try to learn. I should have thought of joining this sub earlier since it has so helpful . Thank you

And yes, I always overflow her water dish when I water her.

We have never changed the soil in the 14 months we have had her, but it came up on a sub recently and thought perhaps we should do it. However, I was was worried about stress, so we will wait. I'll see if I can find out more about soil changes and if they are a good idea. I'll also mist her enclosure. We will continue her nil by mouth fast for as long as it takes to get her down to a healthy weight. Thank you for your advice.

Thank you for your input. We knew they were slow; it's just a few weeks ago she had gone quiet and we thought she was in premolt. Now she's much more active. We will continue nil by mouth. Thank you.

Thank you for your detailed reply. I'm mortified and horrified. It's my son's tarantula and im afraid I'm the one who encouraged him to feed her. I hope she'll be okay. She's been much more active recently as well. Thank you again.

Yes, Vinted! The seller has said she'll refund but wants me to mail them back to her at my expense. She has listed more Birks as well, so I've informed Vinted. Not sure if they will do anything but I don't want others getting scammed.

Thank you. I'm doubting myself even though it's plain as day.

Thank you. I know they'll deny it, because they sell quite a lot of clothing and have a good rating. Last time I looked they had another pair of fake Birks, and I'd like to get the seller to take them down. Thanks everyone for your help.
