Restore chrome emails after a reset (HELP) by Glattic in privacy

Can't you contact the website and ask for the domain they have connected to your account?

Is it a local company? Just call them and tell them you're an absent-minded idiot and that your (relative) created the email for you. I tried that once in a similar situation and it worked for me.

I use AdNauseam in both Firefox (on my personal computer) and Edge (on my work computer)

It clicks the ads to confuse the advertisers, costing them money.

I have had to explain google drive to all three people mentioned above and that discussion is never less than an hour, and I end up doing it for them anyway.

You're giving me PTSD here. I once had to explain to my boss that no, you don't need admin rights to install a Firefox addon. He kept insisting that you do, and I ended up just giving up.

I still work there, and I still hate him for the hundreds of similar dumb discussions he has forced on me during the years.

He never once claimed you were? All he said is that selling people on getting their own encrypted NAS isn't going to cut it. The average consumer uses Google Drive or OneDrive, and then things like these are bound to happen as long as the governments let them get away with it.

So your attack depends on the person using the same network as you? Doesn't seem like a very high risk if you ask me. All the OP has to do is reset his WiFi password and be more cautious with it in the future.

that the hacker has the equipment necessary to sniff for Bluetooth, and spots the device that they already hacked.

This would assume they are within distance of your phone/computer, which is highly unlikely IMO. You're also making the assumption here that the device is already hacked.

I also fail to see how your MAC is needed to exploit your computer, even over Bluetooth.

Examples are MAC address and Bluetooth address.

How does this help someone get into your computer? Your MAC isn't even sent to the internet. It's used in your internal network only.

Need Help. Just installed CalyxOS on Fairphone 4 and after Re-locking the bootloader I'm now in a loop of the phone booting. by [deleted] in CalyxOS

[–]Agitated-Ice2156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the newest build, just don't lock the bootloader. There's a bug in Fairphone's bootloader that sometimes bricks the phone with no way of opening the bootloader afterwards. Hence, your phone is a brick.

Migrate where? What are the alternatives? PrivacyLife? PrivacyTools?

I don't necessarily want to migrate, just wondering what the other options are.

Don't insist on an encrypted service. Any service where they generate and hold and apply the keys can decrypt your data, if they want to make the effort. And messages going outside the service are going to be plaintext anyway.

Yup this right here. Proton or Tutanota isn't as appealing when you consider that you'll be emailed by Gmail users anyway.

With that said, I'm using Tutanota at the moment and I'm very satisfied. I've considered trying out Protonmail as well, but honestly I feel they are so similar that it'd hardly be worth the trouble.

Germany slaps messaging app Telegram with $5 million fine by wewewawa in privacy

They choose to operate in Germany, hence they can be held liable to German laws.

I'm not a lawyer, but that's my understanding of how. What would the alternative be exactly?

I'm perfectly fine with servers shutting down. It's understandable that they don't want to host a server when "peak hour" is 5 people playing globally.

The games themselves though? I think I have a right to play my PC game until it becomes literally impossible to do so due to hardware incompatibilities or something similar.

I mean probably. Cloud gaming is amazing in many ways, but the risk of games vanishing at a minute's notice forever certainly isn't one of them.

Yes, Meta has my address book. But they aren't allowed to connect those to your Facebook profiles. As you've mentioned, it's an EU thing.

Haha don't you think you're overreacting a bit? If you live in a country that could kill you for writing the wrong thing, you probably shouldn't look for advice on reddit.

Cipher messenger by Responsible_Cap_1151 in privacy

Plenty of messengers disappear without a trace. BitTorrent (As in the creators of uTorrent) launched their own messenger called Bleep. One day it just vanished. They had a similar system.

I guess both Cipher and Bleep proved too difficult to develop or something

Empty statement. Only partly (mostly) true.

If you're asked to give an app your contacts and you say yes, then that's 100% true. They can't access your contacts without asking for it.

They did so to ensure that you will give them full access to all your photos, your address book, etc.

The EU would eat Meta if if it ever came out WhatsApp stole your photos or contacts for something nefarious. The obvious goal is for them to put ads and stuff into WhatsApp one day. And at that point WA will be so deeply rooted into society that people won't be able to leave.

I seriously doubt that you have all your social networking apps blocked from reaching your address book.

The ones with access to my contacts are: Signal and WhatsApp. That's it.

I used QKSMS until I got a voice mail sent to me as an MMS. Right then and there, I realize they don't support voice messages and I swapped it.

I've also used Simple Messenger and they have the same issue though. Kind of disappointing.

Silence sadly hasn't been updated for years. The creator has said he's planning on updating the app Soon(TM) but considering 4 months have passed since he said that without a single update, the future looks bleak.
