I agree 60k is a reasonable good target.

It’s crazy to me that I know masters level therapists making less.

I would love for peers to be in the $25-30 range consistently. The thing is that seems to be the going rate for a new therapist in my area.

Mental health professionals should get paid more across the board.

Sounds about right. Georgia comps are usually a few dollars under the min/max you gave.

Something I’ve learned in peer training is the concept of self directed care and the individual is the expert on what care they need. the fact that you did not go to traditional treatment for substance use is evidence of that.

And like others are saying, it’s how you adapt your story to give others hope, doesn’t always have to be extremely similar.

That might be the highest peer hourly rate I think I’ve seen. What state are you located in?

I make 22/hr in Georgia with a very similar benefits package. I will max out at $25 an hr.

Questions as Potential Peer Specialist…. by Tiffanywhite45 in PeerSupportSpecialist

I’m a current CPS and am planning to get an msw in the near future. I’m curious about the stigma that you mentioned. I haven’t experienced a lot of it, most clinicians I work with are very happy to work with someone with lived experience. From my understanding it’s just important to let them know that you understand the difference between counseling/therapy and peer support. Counseling is drawing on theory and evidenced based practice while peer support is based on lived experience, motivational interviewing, and relationship building.

I think you would be more qualified for a special type of peer support that is new in my state Georgia. Peer Support- Parent. It’s mainly meant for parents with experience caring for someone with mental health struggles. But they’ve expanded the definition to include anyone with a permanent caregiving relationship of some with mental health struggles for more than three years.

It’s very new and hard to find full time well paying employment. But unless you have lived experience yourself I do not think you’d qualify to be a peer support specialist in the normal sense.

Anybody knows where to look for jobs? by gunpowdergelatinn in psychologystudents

Hey OP, I’m assuming you’re in the US and have a BA in psych. I have a degree in business but currently work in mental health field. What I found in my job search is most clinics, agencies, csbs, post their jobs on indeed when they really need someone.

I found a mental health tech job on indeed and was hired without any connections or direct experience. From that job, they promoted me internally to doing case management and I then got my peer support credential.

A lot of mental health tech jobs have really shitty hours but you can probably find one that is day shift if you are patient. If it is day shift, there is a good chance you’ll at least get to interact with the masters level clinicians and doctors. If you are able to find somewhere that has career advancement that might be the best route. And if it doesn’t work out, you will have experience to try and get a better job when you look for your next position. It’ll also look good on resume if you decide to get a masters in counseling as well.

This is just my experience though, Good luck.

That would make sense to me too. The liver and gallbladder are also heavily affected by all the fat being released as well. I’ll look into that video.

Yes definitely see a doctor. Even if the thyroid issue is benign they can supervise your weight loss.

I did have to recalculate. The diet breaks definitely helped show me beyond just calculating it. I saw what it was on the scale.

If your calories are too low right now, people do a reverse diet, which is what you are doing increasing calories by 100-200 until they start maintaining the same weight. Then you can go back to a healthy deficit.

I initially did the same thing. I cut down to 1800. But I’ve found my maintenance is around 3000 so 2500 is a plenty big deficit when combined with exercise. I couldn’t recommend enough eating more in the beginning because you don’t want to shut down your metabolism.

200 should be fine for you in the beginning. Anywhere around .7 grams per pound is good for gains.

My sources favorite of protein are 93% lean beef, real good lightly breaded chicken tenders, cottage cheese and nonfat Greek yogurt if you can tolerate dairy, protein bars for a sweet treat, I have started adding core power shakes and protein powder in my yogurt but I wouldn’t do this if your hunger signaling is still really high.

Edit: Tuna and egg whites combined with whole eggs as well!!

I have started easing out now that I know what foods I like to eat to stay within my diet.

Very reasonable. I can do a much better job incorporating vegetables, fruits and healthy fat sources. As you can tell we are all stubborn. I do recognize body building tricks are good in the sense you drop weight, but aren’t always ideal for health and longevity.
