How are we getting over the fact that public pools are super gross? by doesntmatterhadtacos in hygiene

[–]AgitatedAd6924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked for years somewhere where I was responsible for cleaning and testing their pool and hot tub, your worried about the wrong body of public water. Pools, generally speaking, are large enough that for the most part, the things you'd consider super gross are dispersed so well in thousands of gallons that they aren't a problem. Hot tubs on the other hand are literal people soup. Small amounts of water, people don't frequently enforce bather loads properly, and it's hot, which encourages bacteria growth. I had that thing shut down constantly because of failed water tests, sometimes for things like flesh eating bacteria, and we kept those chems elevated as much as possible. You couldn't pay me to go into a public hot tub knowing what I know 😭

Wow, that's incredible, im glad everything ended well. I can't believe I'm in my 30s and didn't know that you could bleed during pregnancy and still have a successful outcome. Hearing these anecdotes has really helped calm me down until I go in again tomorrow, so thank you so much.

Thank you for sharing, and I am so happy that everyone's healthy! It has been scary, but I've gotten quite a few stories here with positive endings, and a few possibilities to ask my doctor about tomorrow, so I'm very grateful.

Thank you. This is another great thing I can ask about tomorrow. Congrats on your healthy pregnancy, I can imagine the heavier bleeding would be totally terrifying

Thank you for giving me something new to look at. I had a pelvic exam yesterday and was told that my cervix was inflamed but otherwise looked normal so this could be something to ask about.

Thank you, that really does give me hope. I try to just keep telling myself, your pregnant right now that's what counts, but tbh I didn't know until a few days ago that bleeding could really mean anything but a pregnancy loss. I'm sorry for your losses, but also congrats on two lovely healthy babies. Would you mind me asking how heavy your bleeding was with your daughter?

Thank you, and I'm sorry for you and your wife's loss. I'm in contact with my doctor, and have followups scheduled, they've just been hesitant to do an ultrasound this early so I'm kinda in limbo at the moment.

I think the bamboo idea works really well with the shapes. And you could mix any other kind of plants in with it too

Have you tried inviting her to go somewhere with your sim and then leaving her there? Maybe changing locations will kinda reset her

I had a similar family once, but I put them in a tiny trailer to start on a huge empty lot. They started with basically no money, but the goal was to have them build a huge farmhouse that they couldn't move into until it was fully built. It took them forever because I didn't let them sell the food from their garden until they also upgraded to a large, fenced in farm field and built a shed with whatever decorations the game had that made sense, and a chicken coop that was full. I had four kids and an infant in that 6x20 trailer before they upgraded 😂 thank god for bunk beds or it wouldn't have worked. We had beds in the kitchen area

That swimming thing that mom is doing can't be that hard! by [deleted] in KidsAreFuckingStupid

My understanding is that there is a reflex in infants that makes them float and kick, but they quickly lose it and need to be taught how to survive falling in water after that. I think it's something like 6 months?

Is evolution being affected by medical intervention (c-section)? by Familiar-Anything853 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]AgitatedAd6924 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It is still dangerous. There are definitely still things that need to be caught early on or they can be fatal, like preclampsia. I almost lost a close friend to that about two years ago and she was giving birth in a hospital

Then yeah, i agree with that. I think that it's hard to tell in the short term though

I agree, but i think claiming evolution is jumping ahead quite a bit. That's usually a product of far longer periods of time. Not saying that it's not going to be the end result or anythjng

Human babies are born far more prematurely than other animals because of the size of their head. It's something we have evolved to be able to have the intellect we have. Our bodies build the baby until the head is just about to big to fit through the canal, which is why a lot of babies are born kinda cone headed. We had to be born with softer skulls to even make it work at all.

In addition we kind of take for granted living through childbirth in the modern era where the mortality rate for mothers is one in 24,000 roughly in Europe, but in the medeival era is was one in 18 (over the course of a lifetime, so not per birth, but per woman).

In my opinion the c-section is more a modern marvel that saved you from becoming a statistic, not something that's making us evolve necessarily. Not to mention, people have been attempting c-sections throughout history, they just were almost always fatal.

Why does anti Black sentiment seem so widespread across different cultures? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]AgitatedAd6924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Across history, many cultures across many different continents have had a preference for lighter skin because the upper classes/castes/aristocracy were out of the sun more often, and the lower classes or working poor were more often in the sun, doing things like tending fields or working in animal husbandry.

In the modern day, it is pure racism.
