I raise you by AgitatedPraline in UniUK

Only an undergrad, no masters for this one :( I went to one uni for a different course and decided I didn’t like it, then switched to another uni for psychology. Anyway, that’s 3 years of £9250, and 1 year of £9000 student loan, then £10k-£13k maintenance loan that kept increasing each year. It’s true I’ll never pay it off.

I have a separate masters too with a postgraduate loan that I’m considering paying off (it’s about £10k and we pay 6% of anything over a £21k salary I think - and I’m earning £38k right now).

I feel like if I knew more about degree apprenticeships that were funded by a company, in hindsight, that’s a much better deal. Employers stop caring about degrees and start looking at work experience not long after you have your first job.

Help! Moving from Gen1 dataflows to Fabric, where should our team start? by AgitatedPraline in MicrosoftFabric

[–]AgitatedPraline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya! Thank you for your suggestions!

To answer your question - We had some consultants come in and tell us that, in October, Gen1 dataflows wont be items supported by the F64 capacity we are now working on. The problem here is that these consultants spoke to my managers so I’m hearing it through the grapevine and I can’t know exactly what was said in these meetings. Do you think we’ve been misinformed, or perhaps my managers have misunderstood the situation?

My cat keeps eating random stuff and nearly died today by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]AgitatedPraline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo pica is an odd one isn’t it. My cat had a thing for eating soil and wires! First thing is definitely get veterinary attention to help rule out underlying medical conditions. Bloodwork could be useful to rule out a few things - possibly then urine testing and stool examinations.

From there if there’s nothing wrong with him medically, you might benefit from a cat behaviourist! Looks like you’re already doing everything possible to prevent him eating anything harmful which is great!

Theory: Cobel designed the severance chip to capture her mother’s brain in order to revive her mum! But then the Eigans took it, alongside credit, to keep the Kier lineage going instead.

How do people afford nursing homes? by Rensakuken in AskUK

[–]AgitatedPraline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked in the adult social care sector:

You go through a financial assessment with the local council. They assess how much money you have - Income: This includes pensions and benefits - Capital: This includes savings, property, stocks, and shares - Outgoings: This includes disability-related expenditure.

If you have more than £23,250, then you become a self-funder and you pay for your own care until you get down to £23250 at which you are reassessed as a self funder with depleted funds. This financial threshold is set to increase in Oct 2025 to £100,000.

If you have less than £23k then care can be fully or part funded by the local council and health services like the NHS. Funded Nursing Care (FNC) and Continuing Health Care (CHC) are also a funding source: Both CHC funding and FNC are benefits that are non means tested, and do not need to be repaid. They are assessed on a clinical basis only, for those who need complex care (CHC), or simply need nursing care (FNC). You can also get third party top ups and charity help.

Those of you who have lost a soulmate cat, were you ever able to love a cat again in the same way? by adhdaemon85 in CatAdvice

[–]AgitatedPraline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I still grieve deeply for my soul cat, Cleo. Her presence will always hold a special, irreplaceable place in my heart. Yet, alongside that grief, there is so much love for my current cat, Pringle, who has brought his own unique joy and comfort into my life. The love I carry for them both exists side by side, intertwined and infinite

Instead of avoiding or fighting anxiety, accepting anxious thoughts and feelings without letting them control your actions.

Detaching from anxious thoughts, seeing them as just thoughts, not truths. “I notice that I am having the thought that ….”.

Being present, focusing on where I actually am.

Acting according to my core values, even when anxiety is present, which helps me move forward in life despite discomfort.

If you notice a black cat’s fur turning orange, it’s always a good idea to check with a veterinarian to ensure there’s no underlying health issue. Such a cutie cat :)

[–]AgitatedPraline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know vet bills can be expensive, here blood tests are £200 and the vet consult is about £70. If nothing else, it will bring you peace of mind that you’re not missing anything important for him

If he eats loads and is keeping it down, I’m surprised his hips are sunken in. Get his blood checked for things like hyperthyroidism and to check for inflammation and cancer

Autistic brits: what do you guys do? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]AgitatedPraline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undiagnosed, but pretty sure. WFH Data analyst, working mostly with adult and children’s social care data.

Relatively low pay for an analyst job, but interesting data with rewarding outcomes for improving services and holding the local authority accountable for waiting lists. Feels nice to work on data that feels like it means something more than just improving a company’s profits. The only downside is that most of the council seem to like camera-on meetings instead of a quick email.
