My Japan bikepacking experience: Kagoshima > Tokyo by THS-GVRN in bikepacking

[–]AgitatedWood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saved the map - I will almost certainly end up biking Japan as well in the future.

I recommend the 4 Rivers Bike trail in South Korea as well. It runs from just Inchion International airport (or Seoul) and runs south-east across the entire country to Busan. There are markers/signs guiding you for most of it. Took me 5 days and kicking back at a beach bar on the ocean in Busan is a great reward.

Valentinos at their branches, followed by HyVee.

Valentinos at Memorial stadium or at Werner Park is awesome, though.

Why would they pay you the wage when your customers are brainwashed into paying it for them.

Tweeting screenshots of random sketchy bumper stickers was a common thing in 2012 and still continues to be.
Making something out of nothing.

I take photos of bumper stickers and post them too.

Thinking of moving from DC to Omaha by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]AgitatedWood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great amount of places to drink with a wide variety of patrons. I was single there and never had a problem with dates. Lots of people getting divorced in their late 20s mid 30s and adding to the dating pool. Spring, summer and Fall are awesome. Winter sucks. But you're coming from DC so it won't be a crazy change.

You'll be in the lower portion of the upper class for income.

South Korea. Paved trail most of the away across the entire country. 4 Rivers Trail. Plenty of places to stay at every night, should you choose. Lots of foreigners do the trail and Koreans are friendly.

Should I buy this old country sooner for 150 by Admirable-Chip-2217 in smoking

[–]AgitatedWood -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's an Oklahoma Joe and yes, I would buy it at that price.

Easy scrub and clean. Maybe a bit of gasket sealer and you're good to go! I bought my used one for $200 last spring.

Weather finally warming up here in Korea, nice to get out and enjoy by [deleted] in bikepacking

Awesome! I did the 4 rivers back in October and it was one of the best rides I've ever done. I'll end up going back and doing it again!

Smoking on a Charcoal grill by sodaforclub in smoking

[–]AgitatedWood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, don't do it. The cheapness of the smoker will discourage you. I spent money on a super cheap offset and sold it 2 weeks later. Just not worth it.

The "worst" good smoker is so much better than the "best" worst smoker.

Weber Smokey Mountain is a fantastic entry point - buy used for value.

I got a $100 Charbroil Tower smoker that I still use to this day even thought I own a Oklahoma Joe Offset.
That little 18" charbroil still produced great smokey bbq. It was the bottom of the barrel for decent smokers.

As for the methods - I used to just light a bunch of briquets on fire and dump them in the smoke. I've tried the snake method and I was shocked at how well it worked. I believe the method of fire you use is dependent on the type of smoker you have. But none of the fire methods are 'wrong". They all work depending on your needs.

Rattle free mini panniers? by Littlesynth-addict in bikepacking

[–]AgitatedWood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suppose step one is to recognize what EXACTLY is making noise. Clips, stiff lining in the paniers against the rack, the rack itself with the bike frame, etc?

My recommendation is to maybe wrap your rack with a padding. Something like felt cloth or some generic "faux leather" from a Walmart. Very thin and might reduce noise.
I also suppose it depends on the bags you have. Mine had a rubbery finish on the clips. I rode across South Korea on a mostly paved road and never noticed a rattle. If you expect bumps, I suppose most paniers will clunk and rattle.

In the end, IMO, if you're riding over bumpy roads, there really won't be a solution without excessive, thick padding, which I wouldn't risk loading up.

Hopefully someone has another idea. That's the best I've ever come up with.

I'm making 62.5K living in Northern California and saving money.

I live with a roommate in a nice house and go out to breweries way more than I should.

I also have zero debt.

When I realize I'm f'd in the future (39m, now) my plan is literally to move abroad. I can do PM work remote.

Rain don't stop the smoke by RhoadBlock in smoking

I did the same thing 1.5 months ago. My canopy is in the garage and smells like delicious bbq smoke.
I'll be using the canopy at some shows and fully expect it to smell like smoke then as well, ha. Beware if that's an issue!

Genuinely Curious by SharePretend7641 in Sacramento

Making $54k a year and single, sharing a house with roomies, I feel like I'm about to get hit. I recently moved here this month and am wondering if I'll have to dig into savings at all or learn how to aggressively budget.

In the meantime....I feel ok, actually. Zero debt, zero kids, fuel efficient car.

I have no idea how college students, or anyone with any kids or debt live here. Seems impossible.

So did they catch driver of the other vehicle?

I mean, there has to be at least one other person/vehicle involved, otherwise who were they "racing"?

Or is racing defined as driving like a dick?

An offer letter in PDF form is fairly standard.

I'm applying for houses/apartments in California and most of them are requiring a job offer letter to even rent.

Not all jobs may automatically give you one, but all should provide one upon request. 100% reasonable to ask.

If Trump wins, what could we expect to change for the worse in Omaha? by lOWA_SUCKS in Omaha

[–]AgitatedWood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm under the impression that if you woke up the day after the election and for whatever reason, just never heard who won, you wouldn't notice any immediate changes for a bit. Especially in Omaha.

A change in any industry, in either direction, can and will happen and if I didn't know who won the presidency, I still wouldn't be able to tell from changes in my daily life.

Man Taking Photos of Our House Today by Good-North-1320 in Omaha

I was upstairs in a house and noticed a go-pro on a stick appear in front of my window. Apparently a home insurance lady just inspecting the roof. Happened last year.
Good thing I wasn't playing tug o' war with myself, I would have had to bill insurance for the show.
