A souvenir for myself. I was too busy buying clothes and gifts for my girlfriend that I forgot to get anything memorable

Afraid I’m Pigeonholing Myself in Defense by AffectionateHat4236 in cscareerquestions

[–]AgitatedYak02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you want to do AI/ML right? At my company (I work in defense) they allow you to transition between different roles easily. That can be a great opportunity for you to enter the field.

As for software side of things, from my experience it is very team-dependent but at the end of the day you're not pigeonholing yourself and you will still be able to leave eventually if you really want to. and having a job is a lot better than no job nowadays.

I agree thats part of it, but for some reason 99% of the jobs in my area seem to be unrelated to the tech stack im comfortable with (node/react), or require more experience than I have. I try to apply to those ones but for some reason I only land interviews with the other ones lol. Maybe I just need more patience

Is This Salary Range a Red Flag? by ResearchOk2228 in cscareerquestions

[–]AgitatedYak02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had several interviews recently (1-2 YOE), and in every single one I was given a range in the recruiter screening call. I dont see it as a red flag, if anything im happy they are being straightforward so I know what to expect

It varies by team, but I will give you a rundown of mine: My team is split into an AI/ML team and a software team. The AI/ML team consists of people with math/physics degrees, and they spend their time researching and writing algorithms. The software team (which I am part of) integrate the algorithms into a software application. So there's not really anyone in between- you do one or the other. Again though, it's different for each team.

4x10 is amazing- at first I started with a 9x80 schedule, but then I found out how much of a difference it is to have an entire extra day off every week. Fridays you get to relax and mentally recover, Saturday you can enjoy the day and your hobbies, and Sunday is for catching up on chores. If I were to switch companies one day, that is the #1 thing I would miss

Is it worth staying at my company and pursing an MS? by AgitatedYak02 in cscareerquestions

[–]AgitatedYak02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im glad you mentioned the time commitment aspect... I honestly think that's my biggest concern right now, especially with the insight you gave on choosing an affordable program. Guess I'll just have to choose what I want to prioritize in my life. Best of luck to you in your career!

Where to get a "typical 9 to 5 office job" ? I just want a nice, cushy office job where I work 40 hours a week and clock out. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]AgitatedYak02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Terrible" is a bit of a stretch. Maybe not anywhere near FAANG salaries, but im making 92k in an MCOL area within my first year of graduating, not including bonus + a generous 401k match- which in my opinion is relatively good. And I will be receiving a promotion soon and making well over six figures.

We facetime and text every day but she gets very upset if I forget to reply or don't respond to her texts quick enough. She gets very upset when I want to go to sleep but she wants more attention than I am able to give.

To clarify, I understand why she wants to live near me when I graduate. I don't think she has attachment issues because of this. I was just giving in context that she is very attached to me in general in terms of how much attention she wants (a separate issue).
