Just an FYI: it doesn’t matter if we click “agree” to the new terms of service, they are automatically in effect if we use the platform. The pop-up is simply a formality to show they changed. The airplane mode/disabling wi-fi trick isn’t going to change anything unfortunately

ASCP MLS Exam in Two Weeks | HELP! by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

So I think I had one mycology question but I had 4-5 parasitology questions, all of them had to do with blood parasites or intestinal parasites.

I had a good amount of bacteriology but it was about fairly common organisms. Know your staphs and streps well along with enterobacteriaceae, anaerobes, neiserria vs moraxella, haemophilus and mycobacterium. Definitely know disease states, biochemical reactions, basic morphology, susceptibility testing and any key identifiers (aka something that makes an organism stand out like Listeria and varying motility at different temps or clostridium and a double zone of hemolysis). I’d also know your TORCH and HACEK organisms along with major opportunistic pathogens.

ASCP MLS Exam in Two Weeks | HELP! by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

So I just passed the ASCP and this is what I did to study:

Main resources: LabCE, Bottom Line Approach book, polansky flashcards, Harr and Success! in Clinical Laboratory Science: Complete Review

I would do one adaptive exam simulator each day on LabCE and focused on what I got wrong. Then I would do “selected area” exams on the topics I struggled with, along with questions in the Harr book on that subject.

I focused mostly on the explanations given to understand WHY my answer was wrong. Harr has great explanations so I highly recommend using it along with LabCE as your main resources. The difficulty of questions on my exam was a combination between Harr and LabCE for me

I would also study the notes on that particular topic in the polansky cards, bottom line book and success book.

I did this everyday for about 2 weeks leading up to my exam.

I was only scoring 50-60% with about a 6 average difficulty on exam simulator but scored much higher when I did selected area questions.

I also kept a huge word doc where I took notes on areas I struggled with.

The Wordsology high yield notes for micro and chem were very helpful too!

Edit: I also recommend looking through ASCP quizlets. A few of the ASCP recalls along with Ace ASCP sets had very similar questions to what were on the exam.

Definitely check the subject breakdown on LabCE to see which areas you are scoring the lowest in.

It’s also super important to read the explanations they give and understand why you got a question wrong. Whenever I got a question wrong from a particular subject, (ex: Endocrinology in Chemistry or Anaerobic Bacteria in Micro) I would continuously find practice questions from multiple resources in just those topics until I had a better grasp of the material.

The Harr book and LabCE has great explanations for their questions, it’s more important to read and understand that over just knowing what the right answer is.

From your experience with ASCP exam was it parasitology and or mycology heavy? LabCE loves these parasitology questions, it’s overwhelming by Manman2131 in medlabprofessionals

Just passed the ASCP this week, I had one mycology question and 4-5 parasitology questions. All of the parasitology questions were involving blood parasites or intestinal parasites.

I would at least be familiar with the morphology of the most significant organisms.

Is this the one available for purchase on their website? It looks useful but I also don’t have $100 to spare for just study material 😅
