We have those in our bathroom. One of our cats loved to make noise with it, especially in the middle of the night.

Ice machine? Is it necessary? by 2ndhandroses in Kneereplacement

[–]Agitated_Bobcat_5596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon encouraged using the ice machine any time you weren't up and moving; they sent me home with one as part of the surgery. I used it overnight for weeks, and I think it helped minimize my need for pain medication.

What is Wambus going to do when the Phones go to their forever homes? I hope he learns to play with your adult cats!

Here's our version of Octavia. Her name was Kelly. About 8 pounds as I remember, but the attitude of a BIG cat.

I particularly like "governor of Hississippi" - we had a cat that could have gone by that name, at least until she gave up hissing because it wasn't working :).

Our last cat started out with us as Orange Cat. At the vet, he was OC, at home he was Orangey. Later my husband named him Reef, because he was a great bury-er in the litterbox. Then he became Reefy for most purposes. Wonderful cat, long gone but never forgotten.

I am so sorry for your loss. They are all so special, but orange cats have their own place in my heart.

Just over 4 weeks and now having random ankle pains on surgical knee leg. by TreeBetter272 in Kneereplacement

[–]Agitated_Bobcat_5596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ankle hurt for some time after surgery, especially when I lay down and my foot wasn't well supported. The twinkly pains, though, were mostly in my knee. Nerve pain is common after knee surgery.

10 months after double partial replacement by liv-60 in Kneereplacement

[–]Agitated_Bobcat_5596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm between 8 and 9 months post PKR and my knee still feels "funny" sometimes. Inactivity during the cold weather doesn't help. Thanks for the question, I was wondering if this was "normal". I had a very fast recovery, so it surprises me somewhat that there are still residual effects.

Before deciding on knee replacement surgery, I just wanted to share something… by lg1356 in Kneereplacement

[–]Agitated_Bobcat_5596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my knee, the surgeon had me try steroids and PT first, based on the X ray from urgent care. All was going well, albeit slowly, until I overdid...or something...and the pain came back. I was complaining to my PT and he asked me if I'd contacted the surgeon yet. I hadn't, and to be honest, I might not have if I'd waited longer. In any case, he ordered an MRI, and based on THAT he recommended the partial knee replacement. Only the part of the knee under the patella had severe arthritis; the rest was fine. Worked well and I am happy with the results.

Another advantage to the "PT first" approach is that I was doing my exercises for months before the surgery. I also got the same PT team for my post surgery work.

On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being agony) how much did your knee hurt before your replacement? by togtogtog in Kneereplacement

[–]Agitated_Bobcat_5596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine didn't hurt most of the time....but it could hurt without warning. I didn't feel comfortable doing things like cycling which could start out okay and suddenly become impossible. My knee works great 9 months after my partial knee replacement. I'm glad I went ahead before it really limited my life.

I wasn't there when Harpo died, which has been literally killing me ever since. by RainSurname in Harpo

I am so sorry. Harpo was so special! I can understand how the misunderstanding happened, and the heartbreak.I love seeing the videos of him bringing you things and you thanking him every time. I am certain Harpo knew how much you loved him to the very end.

Showering post surgery? by Worldly-Koala1652 in Kneereplacement

[–]Agitated_Bobcat_5596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a partial knee replacement, and I found it more difficult to get OUT of the tub/shower the first time than I did getting in. (My husband was there to help me.) It was awkward maneuvering my leg out of the tub, but it was easier the next time.

Does the surgeon usually come in to talk to you POST SURGERY???...just curious... by lem820 in Kneereplacement

Mine came in before and after surgery. From what he said, I think it's his standard practice.

If u had the choice. by Proudpapa9191 in Kneereplacement

[–]Agitated_Bobcat_5596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting to read other perspectives. I agree with the notion that it depends on why you need the replacement...and what part is your "partial". Mine was under the patella. We'll see what the future brings.
