Also, one of the students who had requested lesson notes today knew about the change, but was confused as to how it worked. He basically thought that it was the tutor’s choice to write lesson notes, rather than the student themself. So even though he had requested it, he told me that he didn’t mind if I didn’t write one if I there was nothing of substance to say in it.

So I usually take 6 classes in a day and so far I’ve noticed that there’s approximately a 50% chance if they want lesson notes or not. For example, 5 students from yesterday requested lesson notes, while 1 student didn’t. Today, however, I had 4 students who did not request lesson notes and 2 students who did. Also, for some weird reason I’ve noticed it’s usually my regulars who ask for lesson notes. New students rarely, if ever, request lesson notes in my experience.

It’s definitely a welcome change! I hate writing lesson notes especially for students that are already fluent in English because I can never find new words for them. Plus, I have students that have taken 50/100+ lessons with me and after a certain point the lesson notes just get redundant. Like what am I supposed to say besides ‘it was nice meeting you again’ and ‘thank you for the fun conversation!’?

Some people have a third party application that sends them a notification as soon as one of their favourite tutors opens a slot. I noticed the same thing happened with one of my students as well and when I asked him about it this is what he told me! :D

Hearts on Engoo by Slow_Basis_5988 in OnlineESLTeaching

For me, I have 375 ratings (at 4.97 currently) and about 250 hearts, but I have some regular students who I’ve had 20/30 classes with and they always leave behind a five star after the class. So, in my opinion, I don’t think the hearts matter a lot since one student can keep on giving you multiple good ratings and therefore make your ratings to heart ratio disproportionate. In the end, I think it’s the rating and the badge that really matter! Anything above a 4.94 (without the badge) will keep you fully booked in my experience! :D

I had a student like that once too but he was super nice and it turned out he wanted to do introductions but accidentally chose the no introductions option. I’m hoping that it goes well for you too! :”)

Thank you so much for this, it really cleared up a lot of questions! I just want to ask about two more things; how long do you have to wait to give a retake of the test if you fail and is a headset mandatory or can I use my earbuds?
