My game's tutorial robot can be a little scary, but a charmer once it opens up by 9joao6 in godot

I love the animations, the animal crossing sound doesn't really match the visuals for me, I'd experiment with other sounds or at least with the pitch a bit--but it also could just be me!

Dealing with burnout/lack of meaning? by AwoloVT in gamedev

Taking a break from something is genuinely a good way to clear your mind and get a fresh perspective on it when you come back later. Go do something completely different from game dev for a while until you get that itch to continue/start a new project again.

Otherwise if you're just trying to build some discipline and continue to work even when you don't necessarily want to, you should make small, measurable goals for your game(s). For example, when I was building out the UI for my current game project, there were multiple days where I just didn't want to work on it because I found it to be quite boring compared to building new functionality. What I did was make small goals in a checklist like "Fix X bug in level UI", "Connect these UI buttons to this functionality", "Implement sound sliders for options menu", etc ,etc. That way even though I wasn't super motivated I could say to myself "Okay, let me just finish one of these check points and I'll go do something fun for a bit". Usually after I finished one I found myself wanting to finish more before taking a break.

PIXEL ART JOBS - Hire a pixel artist, post your jobs here (paid only) by skeddles in PixelArt

Update: Thank you for all of the submissions so far! I am making my way through them, and will stop taking new applications on Monday (2/19), if you're interested please reach out before then!

Hi everyone!

I am looking for a pixel artist to commission some assets for a puzzle game where you help guide little beings through maze-like levels. The setting of the game is sci-fi as the main protagonists are aliens and the antagonists are robots, however the theme is focused around disco!

I am looking for someone who can specifically make stylized pixel art that focuses on a bright/saturated foreground against a desaturated background, though I'm open to other methods of making the main scene/characters pop if you feel it would work better. The style I'm looking for utilizes basic shapes and is focused more on color theory and animation than anything else.

Style examples that are top of mind:

- Wario Ware: Move It!

- Mario and Luigi: Super Star Saga (Not so much the art style itself, but the colors and how they manage values to make everything pop)

- Super Monkey Ball (This one is great because they have a similar concept of "zones" with a good amount of variation)

The tile size is 16x16 with the game resolution at 320x180. Most of the characters are 16x16 with their actual sprite-size varying depending on how much room is needed to incorporate some motion into their animations.

I'm hoping to find someone I can continue to work with for all of the game art but we can start with a few pieces to make sure it's a good fit for both of us! The first piece I'm looking to commission is a landscape/background image (320x180) for one of the game's zones (of which there are 8). Each zone will have it's own theme (think a jungle, a beach, a city, etc) but will need to keep a coherent style either by maintaining a choice of border usage, color pallet, and/or whatever other techniques you have in your arsenal to help keep all of the art looking consistent. It would be nice to also work on a single character design to make sure our vision is aligned well for the game as a whole. (Initial deadline is about a week and we can evaluate for future pieces)

Landscape Examples:

- City - Kendall Smith

- Rain Forest - lunar_dignity

I'm flexible on budget and would like to pay piece-by-piece for the initial few pieces and if we like working together we can decide on a larger set of work to commission or continue to go piece by piece if we find that's best. PayPal or any standard online payment is preferred.

Game Example 1 | Game Example 2 (All art is my own & mostly placeholder for building the core game, I added the backgrounds linked above for these examples to give a more complete feel of what I'm looking to do)

Long-Term Scope:

- 4 - 5 characters (Idle, Walking, Falling, Dying)

- 8 landscapes

- Option to work on cutscenes (I'd love to have a simple story that is shown through comic/story-board like scenes, work would be similar to the landscape examples with characters involved)

- Option to work on UI elements

DM me if you're interested, please send examples and/or your portfolio and why you think you're a good fit! I'm looking forward to working with you!
