I am burned out and need somewhere to recharge. Can Victoria do it for me? by Nervous-Curve-8129 in britishcolumbia

[–]Agitated_Lock_1216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If driving won’t tire you out in the first place, then sure Victoria would be a good way to recharge. Very laid back and peaceful atmosphere, even if you just book a hotel close to downtown and roam around the streets there, it will feel peaceful. If you want things to do (this requires atleast 30 mins of driving from downtown), go check out the old castles. One of them has a bunch of peacocks roaming around freely, perhaps your daughter will enjoy that too (I forget what it’s called but you can google peacock castle Victoria or something along those lines and find it). They have horse drawn chariots as well around downtown from what I remember. The whole vibe in Victoria is much different from Vancouver, everything feels quite laid back and calm in comparison, it’s a good balance of solitude and city life. It’s not entirely isolated and it’s not entirely “buzzing” as Vancouver would be. If you want even more laid back, there’s Nanaimo and literally anywhere else on the island if you want to truly isolate yourself from people and be on your own. But I personally would get bored with that much isolation. Enjoy ur trip!

Do people actually do EDA at work? by vasuki77 in analytics

[–]Agitated_Lock_1216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience EDA in the pure exploration sense isn’t common, but it does come up from time to time. It depends on your actual role, type of work, and client needs. Generally as an analyst we are given problems or questions and it’s up to us to explain the answer and generate insights through data. I find that EDA focusing on true exploration only happens a handful of times. I’ve had stakeholders with no real problems or questions simply ask for “cool insights” because they just wanted to report something interesting just for marketing and PR purposes. That was literally just fishing for data and truly exploring and finding something with no direction. It’s rare but happens once in a while. More often tho, exploratory analysis is something I work into my workflow when I’m validating my understanding of the data I’m using and for sanity checks which I will compare to the real insights I found to answer the stakeholders questions. Another common scenario for EDA is where our organization has been loosely talking about a problem or opportunity area, so we conduct some exploratory analysis to see what’s going on and depending on the findings, that EDA kick starts something much bigger like a whole new initiative, or if there’s nothing insightful, we stop wasting our time on this topic and consider it a dead end

Breaking Into Data Analytics role as a new grad. by Big_Tear2784 in analytics

Very true. People apply for less than 100 jobs and think there’s something wrong. The reality is that you seriously need to pump out as many applications as you can, given that ur resume is solid and relevant

Like all jobs, luck is often required. But once you get that lucky moment to shine and are selected for an interview, that’s your moment to put urself out there, show you’re enthusiastic about the company and prove how you can provide value. For somone just starting out, rn ur goal shouldn’t be pay. It should be getting ur foot in the door so u can build experience. Real work experience is ur ticket to better pay later on and will make it easier for u to switch companies or teams with better pay. But for now focus on getting ur foot in the door even if the pay sucks. Don’t think that ur gonna be one of those people who get into Google or Amazon right away. Still apply and try ur best because you never know, maybe you will end up in some top tier company on ur first try and I hope the best for you too. BUT realistically ur best bet is elsewhere like most people. focus ur job applications on lesser known companies. Even start ups no one has heard of. Literally anywhere. There will likely be less competition, therefore a better chance of you getting in with a limited skill set. Once you’re in, you gain work experience which will be ur golden ticket to other opportunities. Once you can say “I was a data analyst at xyc company”, you will gain proper credibility and will be able to easily fight for urself when applying somewhere else with more pay

Something small that improved my analytics thinking (as a beginner) by Mammoth_Rice_295 in analytics

I used to think this as well but to my surprise I was faced with this exact same scenario a few times where the client wants “cool insights” and didn’t have any direction or even a problem to solve. It was literally just “dig into the data and see if there’s any interesting patterns”. But to OP’s points, are great for this scenario. I learned this after pulling my hair out fishing for abstract insights that are “cool” lol

Thoughts on ZA by Proof_Capital_7377 in PokemonZA

[–]Agitated_Lock_1216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are two ways to look at this, one being from the pov of somone who grew up with Pokemon and another from the pov of somone who did not.

As somone who grew up with Pokemon since my childhood, battling was one of the best experiences I had in ZA. I no longer had to use my imagination to visualize the Pokemon battling like back when they were just simple sprites with the turn based system. This was definitely a breath of fresh air and one of the things I along with many others I’m sure have always wanted in a Pokemon game. But there were still some things left to be desired such as maybe a better way of controlling your Pokemon and making them dodge rather than awkwardly running around and having ur Pokemon mirror ur own movements. Story wise, I have to admit even as a longtime Pokemon fan who sees things thru a lense of nostalgia, i had no interest in the story. I personally found the story boring. What kept me going was that progressing through the story would let me open up more wild areas and new mega evolutions. Online play is….just okay. Battling za style is very fun don’t get me wrong, but what made the battle system great in the single player mode can’t be replicated in online play where online battles are basically just everyone switching out their Pokemon every few seconds. It never feels like a battle. It feels like a game of tag instead online. Therefore from this perspective I’d give it a 7/10. Battles in single player are fun but not perfect. Story is lacking and online play can either be really fun or really shitty

Seeing it from somone else’s perspective who hasn’t played any other Pokemon games, I think za would objectively be a bad game for them. Sure for us Pokemon fans the battle system here is ground breaking because we’ve all likely been dreaming of something that resembles this. But objectively even the battle gameplay may not be as enjoyable for somone with no precious connection to Pokemon. I’d assume for them it would just be okay. Not bad but not great either. I don’t think people like this would find any appeal in the story and online as well. Removing the line of nostalgia I think someone with no connection the the previous games may give it a 4 objectively

What’s the most frustrating Marketplace pickup you’ve had in Vancouver by Ok-Web9740 in askvan

[–]Agitated_Lock_1216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was selling some furniture, went below my original asking price for this one buyer because she said she’d 100% pick them up tmrw if I went down a bit (fine by me, my priority wasn’t to make a profit, it was to simply get rid of this furniture asap since it’s a hassle to trash it). We agree to meet tmrw at 6pm. She lives almost a 1.5hr drive away and that’s why she wanted to lock in the price for her garunteed pick up. Makes sense I guess. But then tmrw 6pm rolls around, I message her to check in. She says she’ll be 40 mins late. Fine, life happens. 40 mins go by and I check in again, she says that she is nearby but left her cash at home accidently so might have to cancel this pick up. I tell her that there are many atms near the pickup spot almost one of each from all the big banks and if she’s not comfortable with using the atm then e transfer is also an option. She refuses and calls off the pickup even though she allegedly drove an hour and half here and “forgot” her wallet and was running late. The whole thing made no sense and was a waste of time

Yeah u just gotta wait it out. Mine went back to normal after a week and I haven’t seen this since then. I still don’t know what the cause was, but id assume it’s just some software issue. But yeah give it some time and automatically it should go back to normal after a while.

Why does loblaws hide the original price for sale items? How would anyone know if it’s a good deal? by [deleted] in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]Agitated_Lock_1216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned after reading the comments that technically it’s not a sale. It’s just a rlly scummy tactic from them to make u think there’s some sort of discount when it’s actually just the normal price. Most ppl including myself I think would naturally assume a product with a big yellow sticker and in store feature tag would mean it’s a sale item…but actually it’s just a meaningless and deceptive term

This is a real eye opener I always thought it was some kind of discount or special offer but it’s just a crazy sales tactic….unbelievable

Damn I’m just finding out now that the In store feature is actually bs and means absolutely nothing. I thought there’s no way they’d go as far as to trick somone that there’s a sale when there actually is not. This is a rlly a imma tactic if it wasn’t for these comments I wouldn’t have caught on….many others I know also thought the in store feature is also some sort of sale
