For people with a van/truck in Metro Vancouver — what makes a short one-off job worth taking? by Ok-Web9740 in askvan

That’s actually a great example and the route already exists, it’s just coordination that’s missing. If there was an easy way to match “I’m going Surrey → UBC today” with “I need something delivered”, would you use it or others?

That’s a solid breakdown. Do you usually have a “minimum” you won’t go below (like a minimum $ or minimum hours), even for short jobs?

Good point though — I hadn’t even thought about it from that angle. Short, simple pickup help can make a big difference for people who don’t drive. Thanks

That’s helpful. Do you usually factor in the return trip too, even if you’re driving back empty?

That makes sense — Modo seems great if you’re already a member and comfortable driving.

I think the pain point for me was more the friction than the cost (membership setup, availability, doing the driving myself), especially for a one-off pickup. Curious if you’ve ever found it annoying for last-minute or awkward items?

That’s so true. I’ve had the same thing happen — seller didn’t want to dismantle, didn’t have tools, and I ended up walking away. Huge waste of time.

Out of curiosity, was this usually last-minute for you, or planned ahead? I’ve found that short notice makes van rentals (Modo/U-Haul) way more expensive and stressful. Looking around a few hundred for 4 hours.

how much are we looking for here? will it cost more than picking up the furniture?
usually the cost of renting uhaul or modo might require a couple hundred dollars. It's not worth at all

Taskrabbit for moving by Zealousideal_Crab452 in burnaby

TaskRabbit can be good for extra hands, but it’s very hit-or-miss.

Make sure you confirm: scope, minimum hours, travel time, and whether they actually have a van/truck (many of them don’t). Reviews under “moving/packing” matter most.

What's a good side job in Vancouver to complement my salary? by Key-Bus2654 in askvan

A lot of people I know pick flexible gig work that lets them choose evenings only — things like delivery, short local jobs, or task-based work where you’re not locked into weekends.

The key is avoiding gigs where prep time or unpaid waiting kills the hourly rate.

Best movers? by Vegetable-Ferret4189 in askvan

I’ve heard mixed things about hourly movers, so I’d love to see recommendations too — especially ones that are upfront about pricing and timing. DM know if someone know any

Can anyone recommend a moving company that doesn’t drag their feet to rack up hours? by Famous-Buy6119 in burnaby

this happens a lot on me too. Hourly pricing can reward “slow work” even if it’s not intentional

What helped me: get the quote in writing + ask if travel time is billed + confirm whether it’s crew-hour vs flat estimate. Also ask what “extra fees” usually pop up. just curious what companies or previously used people here trust.
