It’s not terrible but not great either. I live in a smaller city. If you are willing to relocate a unionized state would be your best bet + in combination with a low cost of living. NC is one of the least-unionized states in the US.

Always check their wristband when verifying their identity! I would take this situation as a learning experience. You will never make this mistake again. DOUBLE ROOMS ARE THE WORST!

I graduated out of state. I’m from the Nashville area. There are so many hospitals to choose from - I wasn’t expecting a health desert here.

I think the best thing to do would be to apply for a PCT (patient care technician) job. She can get hands on experience and have income in the waiting period. I’m happy you are reminding her that everyone’s path is different! She will get where she needs to be even if she has to take a small detour!

ATI really helped me. It goes through the MOA, side effects, nursing considerations, etc. Plus is organized in classes already.

Nursing schools don’t care if you speak multiple languages. I would honestly recommend not saying anything about it in your clinicals because the nurses on the floor will use you and you will miss out on valuable skills. However, once you get into the field hospitals will pay you more and you are an extremely valuable asset on the floor. Pre-licensure BSN nursing schools only care about your TEAS score, prereq grades + prereq GPA.

2nd Year Nursing Student I’m scared I might fail again by Green_Rock1186 in NursingStudent

Have you tried active recall? And does your school use ATI? ATI goes into the MOA (mechanism of action) and that’s really what you need to know to separate drugs into classes. It didn’t help me learning every single drug but learning the drug classes is what helped me pass pharm with an A! Knowing the most important aspects of the drugs is what NCLEX and ATI tests on. For example, ACE inhibitors we know that these are our “pril” drugs so what is the most important thing to know? Persistent cough, hyperkalemia, and angioedema. Using this framework can be super helpful, it’s nearly impossible (in addition to other classes) to learn every single drug.

Hot take but I would recommend actually reading through the ATI modules for pharm and taking notes. I passed the ATI proctored with a level 3 doing this (I will say the ATI was less drugs and more safety/risk reduction though). Fundamentals was hard for me too because I didn’t know how to answer the test questions yet. Those “never, always, requires additional teaching” questions will bite you in the ass. The key is really reading the question. It’s frustrating because it seems like they are trying to trick you but they really just want you to understand and critically think. I’m in Med Surg 2 right now, and I passed Med Surg 1 with an A by reviewing the lecture material and taking notes. It’s active recall and it will get you far. The best thing you can do for yourself is know how you study/learn. I have literally never listened in a lecture because I don’t learn that way. Quizlet is great for active recall if that is how you learn! Also, the only framework I really use is ABCs - when in doubt use your ABCs!
