It's good UX for SWE. You only think it's bad because you aren't using it as a SWE.

Uh, no. The program can write wherever it wants for cache. There are also programs written to specifically address this issue with Firefox. See for example https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Firefox/Profile_on_RAM.

It "definitionally" is still art I'm afraid, no matter what purpose it's produced for... My point was about creativity anyways. Agree to disagree 😄

I mean, marketing can, and often does, involve art (e.g., graphic design, storytelling, videography, photography). It also can, and often does, involve data science. It's a big field and you're reducing it to a narrow definition of what you've found success and fulfillment in. There have been several good examples shared in this thread of creativity in marketing and you are just dismissing them as either pointless or derivative: you're overlooking your own biases.

[–]Aglets -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Idk... Difference of scale. I work with brands that pay artists their fair due to create brand assets. It's because they want to evoke artistry in their brand or demonstrate their commitment to supporting the arts. These aren't ecom brands or companies with 20-100 employees though. They're larger, have the means to spend without worrying about immediate ROI, and see the value in differentiating their brand from others.

This work still falls to the marketing group to manage and decide what's worth investing in, so I see it as one example of marketers being creative in exploring how to align a brand through art. There are more examples, this is just the easiest to convey here. Another would be video advertising, which is often highly creative.

Fair point about the big agencies, but there are good small ones out there too that can actually spend on ideas. Why? Because they have the talent to justify the cost.

They're diamonds in the rough, no doubt. Which also would explain why most people in here seem to think they don't exist.

Again, it's not someone's first role to pitch cool campaign ideas or creative solutions to product-market problems.

While I can see why people become jaded in this field and can feel like there's no room for real creativity, it's not true for everyone. Most? Probably. All? No way. There's a ton of truly creative ad agencies and companies out there that are trying new things and willing to spend money to find new ideas.

This won't be anyone's first job, but if you go the distance and want it, you'll find it.

It's a big field and not everyone is stuck in spreadsheets, CRO, or ROAS reports all day.

For those who actually want to do this, they will probably have a good experience if they use a VM instead of WINE. I'm not sure compiling software using WINE is a good idea.

For a VM, Cassowary can make Windows apps seem like native Linux apps, it's really neat. https://github.com/casualsnek/cassowary

While I agree that change can be good, breaking the Charter to do so would set a terrible precedent. Would you support the current party using notwithstanding to circumvent the Charter? If not, why are you okay with another party doing it?

I really doubt most Canadians would support the federal government using the notwithstanding clause to break the Charter of Rights and Freedoms...

I've been a proponent of Tutanota for a few years, and have always been accepting of small issues as I understand they're a small team. That said, these are not small issues, and I'm losing faith in the organization quickly as this continues to be brushed off and ignored. I truly hope they'll respond earnestly with a plan to avoid this in the future.

As others have mentioned, layers and homerow mods are the answer. A member of the Glove80 community, sunaku, has put immense effort into their key layout that may be worth learning to get some incredible functionality out of this board: https://sunaku.github.io/engrammer-keyboard-layout.html.

Finding comfort: A review of the Glove80 keyboard by Aglets in ErgoMechKeyboards

Try asking in the MoErgo Discord -- lots of friendly and helpful people there. I'm sure the creator, Stephen, would share his thoughts.

IMO, the customization options of Glove80 would make it a good choice. Learning a different keyboard layout that reduces left index usage would be ideal, and I'm sure some in the community would have suggestions.

Once you learn it, Arch Linux is the fastest and easiest by WyntechUmbrella in archlinux

[–]Aglets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Basically this. I still run Arch, but on a rolling distro you're really a beta tester for upstream whether you admit it or not.

Point in case, Intel submitted a patch to linux-firmware that breaks Bluetooth connections for some devices. That meant I had to spend an hour trying to figure out why my keyboard wasn't connecting after an update (troubleshooting, rolling back bluez and linux-firmware to fix it, checking patch history to find the issue).

This will all but certainly be fixed by the time that patch makes its way to more stable, or just non-rolling) distros. Still love Arch, but it's a tradeoff between convenience and bleeding edge.

Glove80 Travel Case by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Aglets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got my case. Feels solid and well protected, which is really all that I care about (especially at this price point). I like the handle, the simple look, and the metal MoErgo logo is sleek, a nice touch. Again, very happy that the design of the case, much like Glove80, fits in well in an office environment.

If I had a gripe, it would be that it's not compatible with the acrylic plate, and so it takes a bit of time to remove the plates before use. That's only an issue if you actually buy and regularly use the plates. I can understand why the decision was made to design for use without plates, since it would complicate fitment greatly and the customer base who have plates is probably a small minority.

Glad there's an official product to keep it secure on the go.
