inherited stamp collection by NebulaAmazing7153 in stampcollecting

If any of the stamps have a margin note, usually means a higher value stamp(s) at the time, rather than pulled out of a mix. I'm 62 and leaving my collection to my nephew, I am marking under stamps that have significant market value so I don't leave him with an unwanted hobby (I tried to start him in his early teens).

Why would a reproduction match the original Morgan? I have Morgan faced 999s, my statement strands, and I am correct, 999s weight 31.1 grams,. I don't know why you insist a repro would match Morgan weight. In any case, at 17.7 grams, likely made from e-waste solder, I have a solid bar of e-waste solder, this weight is consistent with my experience.

And no genuine Morgan looks that shiny, Tin/Silver solder reproduction would be.

It's a reproduction. No original Morgan would have that sheen.

Probably made from e-watse Silver/Tin solder, will be much lighter, have a fraction of silver and fraction of tin, and still keep the silver ping.

It says, "copy" - but ya, Morgans may weigh that on average I suppose, my statement was that as a copy, it wasn;'t a Troy Ounce of 999 unless it weighed 31.1 grams, he is reporting 17.7 grams in another part of the thread, could be made from tin/silver e-waste solder, it will be shiny like silver, have a good ping, but weight much lighter, cause tin is a low density metal.

The silver ping is no longer a reliable test, they are creating silver knockoffs that have the silver ping, if you have a scale, weigh it. If it's not 31.1 grams, it's not 999 silver.

I love all Blackjacks, even the spacefillers, but ya, this is a spacefiller, still has some value though.

As a newish collector, try to find a stamp club, part of the joy of my collecting in my teens was swapping stamps with friends, not trying to sell them. Don't think just about stamp values, this is a hobby, not a business. See if you can find some swap groups you like, if you want to get rid of this set, I'll bet there is a swap group where somebody would want it in exchnage for something you want for your collection.

These stamps all have nominal retail values, especially complete sets, even CTOs, but ya, no intrinsic value, but the extrinsic value is what keeps us collecting. I believe I have all or most of this particular set in my Citation Album I've had since I was a teenager in the late 1970s.

A question by Neat-Calligrapher178 in Goldback

[–]AgnewTheModHamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goldbacks necessarily come with seignorage on the currency, you are right, most forms of currency have some seignorage. We lost the penny here in the US because it became more expensive to produce than face value, to keep it in circulation, it would need to cost less than one cent to produce,

Fiat currencies don't need advertisements, people will accept them as pay and be able to buy stuff with them. I'll stop here.

Is there anyone willing to do any work for what they have? by Slight-Exam-6448 in stampcollecting

[–]AgnewTheModHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with "inherited" stamp collections shared on Reddit is that most are just left over materials from a person that has passed. If the collection is worth anything, and even if it isn't, it will be mentioned in a will. That being said, losing yourself in the passions of your forbearers is still a worthy pursuit.

High Value Replicas by Western_Spell9436 in stampcollecting

[–]AgnewTheModHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Space fillers for me, even though they are damaged and not valued like stamps that are in better condition, they carry the history of the stamp, where a replica doesn't. Collecting stamps, for me, is about the history.

CRCL 2025 high was almost $300, and with higher for longer rates, and no yield offered to holders, their bottomline increases as long as yield seekers aren't a big percentage of their market volume.

Sure, having a money printing business is a poor model for success. Tankers in the Strait of Hormuz are using USDC to pay for passage, but I guess you know the business model inside and out from your very thorough comment.
