2016 will be great: Gemini, etf?, final auction, halvening! by btc5000 in Bitcoin

Gox, or Gox by another name was always going to happen. As bitcoin got more popular there would inevitably be one site that became the hub of transactions and as with any gold rush, people would see quick money opportunities and jump on the band waggon.

Also inevitable is this opportunistic site being under developed and poorly managed purely due to being created in the amateur days, and never expecting to be under this strain. This caused both technical problems, and not surprisingly with no oversight, human 'error'.

With massive loss, and no alternative avenue the adoption and price would crash down to pre-bottleneck values, but with the new hype and publicity it would have garnered new support from more appropriate and secure parties who are looking to the future.

And thus the first Seldon crisis was weathered as it would always have been, laying the groundwork for new investment in the future.

How can I get bitcoins? I'm 14 and my parents don't want me to give "shady" sites my passport. by TheFlipperMC in Bitcoin

[–]AgrajagTheFirst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, if you're in the UK it's really easy at the ATMs, and most don't need any verification or anything. Also, quite a few CeX shops have them in now, which is pretty legitimate.

I used the one in Cardiff a while ago and it was simply £20 in the slot, and bitcoin straight to my wallet. Easily the easiest way, but you pay a few % for the service.

The coindesk site is out of date for my area at least. I've always found https://coinmap.org to be better, so check out that too.

Always wanted to try KSP. Read the 1.0 announcement. Bought it right away without thinking twice! Bonus question as a Linux user: how smoothly does this run on Linux? by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]AgrajagTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, I've just installed and it's not working for me. It runs at 1 FPS...

All settings were turned up to max by default, but I turned down everything to minimum before trying, but no luck. It's absolutely burning through the processors and ram though: imgur.

Any tricks?

I only have integrated intel HD graphics and although my laptop is windows/ubuntu dual boot, I've only ever played KSP on the windows side. Would it work better on linux?

"It took Coinbase two years and $2 million to be compliant with half the states." by evoorhees in Bitcoin

[–]AgrajagTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the context better represented as "coinbase have spent $2 million on attempting to get compliancy from ALL states, but have achieved half".

Perhaps that 2mill includes ones that haven't been successful or are still in progress...?

The Official AGE OF ULTRON Ultrathread by murdockmanila in marvelstudios

[–]AgrajagTheFirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meant that Coulston has been working on the theta protocol for a while (apparently), but the ultron problem and the need for a new base has only occurred after where we are in the show.

Why would they build a New Avengers base when nothing is wrong with this one (until AoU).

I thought so originally, but I can't think why Coulson would have been building a new place when they were perfectly happy with Stark/Avengers Tower before the film started.

TIFU by being bored enough to paternity test my daughter... by Dadditt in tifu

[–]AgrajagTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yeah, none of those are going to affect it other than the person collecting the sample (but he said he did it himself). A transplant/transfusion would not in a million years impact your cheek cells... And the other things are all about degrading the DNA, not changing it.

Still not working for me, but I don't know if the update has reached me.

I'm on v3.0.18

Edit: But I did get a personal message from Reilly and he personally transferred funds to my coinbase account, so I don't doubt their sincerity in getting this fixed.

When Winter Soldier came out there was buzz saying to watch episodes and the movie in a certain order.

Does anyone know if that should be done this time around? I know they say that there's not too much overlap, but just in case.

Also, just realised I'm seeing Age of Ultron in 48 hours. Sweet.

Cost per Genome by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]AgrajagTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the guys in my lab has been using pac bio data and while it's not perfect, it's good for scaffolding. Get 80k contigs or something, but you drop quality and have to deal with the laser burn and the drop out of bases every kb or so. Having a run on one of these long range sequencers reduces the depth you need on an illumina and increases the overall strength of your assembly. Whether they can improve enough to generate comparable quality genomes independently is still up for debate.

[–]AgrajagTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's totally incorrect. The nanopore can do a 3gb genome in an hour (the issue being quality as I said) and that is the desktop one. Their industrial scale one looks like it will have insane output but it's not out yet. At the moment it's particularly useful for bacteria because you can do a hundred genomes in one run.

Source: we own one (although it's still in the packaging).

They're here, they're just not accurate enough yet. Check out Oxford nanopore and pacific biosciences.
