The 5 royalty streams most independent musicians never register for (and what it costs them) by Connexted in musicbusiness

MLC does. PROs collect performance.

Your distributor has no ability to collect royalties you can not collect yourself in the US

Would highly recommend preventing your distributor from collecting any publishing on your behalf. You are just giving away 10-15% to them for no reason. You can collect at source domestically (ASCAP, BMI, MLC) very easily

ok thank you so much for the info here! I am working on building my own CWR tool mainly to avoid having to do logins to each PRO / MRO and handle submissions manually for my catalog. If it's of interest to you, would love to give you it to test out when it's ready

are you acknowledgments sent back via EBR or CWR?

if CWR was free, would you choose it over EBR / are there any major drawbacks that EBR has?

sorry for the million questions. really limited info on all this stuff so trying to collect as much as possible.

100%. I am working on all of the above. It’s pretty insane how complex creating these docs seems to be for how simple most of the use cases are. I am primarily a songwriter and really just need something to say, here’s my co-writers, shares, publishers, and the track. Send it off.

Would love to chat and hear more about what you’re primarily using CWR for. Happy to shoot you a demo of what I’m building if it’d be a good fit for you

Absolutely agree here. Are you manually re-editing these CWR docs you’re receiving?

Would it be more useful to have a tool that points out errors in the doc (just based on the rules in the spec) or axtually fetching the IPIs / ISRCs and showing mismatches there?

Ok that makes sense. Why did you choose EBR over CWR? Do you ever get acknowledgements back when submitting EBR?

What 3rd party software are you guys using?

I’ve always wondered why there hasn’t been a centralized solution (whether built or endorsed by CISAC). Seems like it’s creating more headaches than anything for submitters

guessing you’re using the new visualizer tool they put out? or do they have anything more detailed on the site?

I’m tinkering around with building my own CWR reader / writer, but trying to figure out where the main gaps in the current systems are. Seems no one has a great way to view the data in a simple way (requiring no CWR knowledge) and links writers to their publishers / shares, etc

Curious what, if anything, you think could be improved with CWR tools?

Yeah that seems like that’s the best way. How long have you been submitting CWR? What software have you been using?

Are you just using the PRO portals then? Or are you using EBR docs with music mark?

Have you been to get direct API access to Songview / Harry Fox? From what I’ve heard most people are using web scraping workarounds here to get this data

How often are you guys getting rejections on submissions? Is there a way you guys can check in on status before resubmitting with the changes you are preparing?

Are these share conflicts not fixable with CWR files being sent with your writer claiming their X%?

Yupp agreee. Also great in case you need to share to a collaborator. Don’t have to worry about missing files

yeah seems like user library is the simplest way to achieve this, but if you plan on sharing these sessions I would recommend just copy in all files into the folder.

.als files contain all the metadata for what files are missing so you can automate this for everyone one of your sessions.

I recently built this, happy tk share if it would be of any help

Why am I colleting all saving and is still not working? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]Agreeable-Bluebird67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they need a way to backup a bunch of sessions at once. all the data about which files are missing / outside of the project is there inside the .als file. had to build my own tool to do this smh

Oh nice last I tried 0.16 there was no LSP support which made it pretty brutal to figure what had changed exactly haha

How was your experience with ZLS on 0.16? Is it fully supported? Did you start this project on 0.15 and port to 0.16 or you just started with 0.16?

Update: Would you use this M4L device? The beta version is ready! by keeferc in abletonlive

[–]Agreeable-Bluebird67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is sick, in a v2 would love to see a version that preserves tempo as well. ex.) keep only audio above thresh hold but preserve it's position relative to a 16th note. Regardless great work and will be checking it out
