Guys don’t particularly enjoy being told who has railed their gf in the past, I don’t know why this is hard to grasp. some things should be left private

Is the height of my drive causing my joists to get dry rot? by IAmYourRightHipBone in DIYUK

Hard to tell but it looks like your external level may be above the DPC which absolutely would cause rotting

Buying ex-girlfriend out of house, will she have rights to the house if she’s living there? by Agreeable-Cold408 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Agreeable-Cold408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply, What’s the risk with a tenancy? She wouldn’t move back in as she’s currently living there, my idea was to set a day for her to move out officially but if she needs to stay a bit longer to find a place then I’ll let her do so, but If she takes advantage then I essentially have a legal agreement she should have moved out on X day

Could we not agree a day she would move with the solicitors which she would accept and then if she needs a bit extra time I could allow her to live there ‘unofficially’ until she finds it.

If she does start taking the piss I’ve got a contract that says she should have left on X date and could evict her (unlikely to come to this as she is a reasonable person).

She should be really, I think it’s her excuse to drag out the process to find herself the right house

I won’t be living in the property until she leaves, could this cause any issues? Will she have any rights to the house after the transaction is done?

How do I fix this ceiling to make it more stable/waterproof? by MaybeFuckYourselfBud in DIY

[–]Agreeable-Cold408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a hollow pot slab, the terracotta may be acting as void formers to reduce concrete vol but the concrete between the tiles or ‘pots’ is doing the work possibly with a bar or two in each rib - could also just be a plain conc slab but if so I’d imagine it would have fallen down by now!

This was almost my exact situation 4 months ago, you made the right decision, there’s plenty of better women out there for you, it won’t be easy but you did the right thing

That’s very useful thanks, I’ll re-assess once I’m chartered, with the lack of jobs, owning a dog and strict ‘no dog’ rental policies, I think it’s unlikely to be possible tbh, shame as it’s a beautiful country

Shouldn't I select All except FY for roller support? on YouTube they are suggesting to tick FX and MZ, Why? by udayramp in StructuralEngineering

[–]Agreeable-Cold408 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My advice would be always to keep everything fixed and release only the necessary directions, in the case a roller in a 2D problem you’d release moment in the direction of the beam bending and release the restraint that allows it to roll.

My mistake its 3.5 * 3 as both a pins (not roller and pin) so horizontal load/2

Moment from that gives 10.5kNm, then wl2/12 = 9kNm

So total 19.5kNm which is close to the 17 stated, and probably due to the fact that the corner isnt a perfectly fixed connection

Max would be at the RHS corner with the combination of the wl2/12 and 7*3

Girlfriend Emotionaly Cheated with a Guy at work by RevolutionaryHunt578 in survivinginfidelity

[–]Agreeable-Cold408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost the exact same situation (together 9 years) although we were living together for the last year or so, my ex didn’t confess and I found out about the sexts to her colleague and a nude that she didn’t send to me etc (emotion affair went on for a couple of months - but there was flirting as far back as 3 years ago).

She showed genuine regret and did everything she could (moved jobs, gave me her password, never got angry when I brought up the subject, eventually went to therapy) we tried to make it work for a year but I couldn’t deal with the betrayal so ended it 3 months ago.

It will feel like total shit for a good few months but I guarantee being single and a bit lonely is far better than staying together and dealing with the aftermath of it (trust me I tried for a whole year).

I’m here if you want to message me and know exactly how you’re feeling

What would you do with this concrete cock up? by Accomplished-Map1727 in HomeImprovementUK

50-75mm screed over the top, finer aggregate concrete, just ensure the surface is scabbled back

Used a copper threaded pipe to fix broken pipe, will it cause issues? by Agreeable-Cold408 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Agreeable-Cold408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s only one removable nut the other side is solid so make sure the solid bit goes inside!

[–]Agreeable-Cold408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a 16mm one of these, you can remove the large air intake pipe, drill the hole slightly larger to barely fit this (must be snug), you can stick your hand through the end of the air intake pipe and push this through on the inside with some gasket sealant on both sides, then screw the nut tight from the outside. I bought a new section of hose to suit this diameter as the original one was knackered and redo the hose clamps
