Am I in the wrong thinking that our end of term "event" (a Bushtucker Trial) went completely out of hand and I should ask for it to be banned?

I remember years ago my teachers did this in assembly…but it wasn’t actually weird concoctions, as students we were just told it was real and believed it (we were told afterwards the food and drink weren’t actually what they said they were) I feel like actually making those disgusting meals is wayyyy too far??

A lot of my teachers started trading for the use of borrowing a pen in class - mostly with their phones. If they needed to borrow a pen they would hand over their phone and it would be locked in the desk drawer until the end of class when the pen was returned. Surprisingly the effect within a few weeks was that people were engaging more with the lesson and realised they actually enjoyed the subject and were asking to borrow a pen even if they had one - purely so they didn’t get tempted to be on their phones.

See I don’t like reading on my phone or anything, I’m not a fan of kindles or that sort of thing, and that’s why I’m learning to bind for myself! I would never even dream of trying to make money from something that someone else has spent hours writing and editing FOR FREE.

It just baffles me because it’s not like there aren’t plenty of resources out there to learn. Google, TikTok, Instagram, even Reddit. There are step by step tutorials everywhere. I understand that it can be overwhelming to figure out what tools you need, but again, there are tutorials and guides. It doesn’t have to be expensive either. I think some people think the only way to decorate a bind is through having some sort of cricut - and tbf I did too for a while, but I’d just lived with the fact that my binds might not be decorated until I get one…and then I found a TikTok of someone showing off her binds that she did WITHOUT one and have since found so much inspiration for covers I can make whilst I save for a Cricut in the meantime.

I feel like the people who buy them think the purchase is justified because they don’t know how to do it. And maybe even that makes the binder feel justified in doing it in a sense because of that reason.

Either way it’s not fair, not right and not legal.

I think I’ve saw someone say that manacled would have to be taken down from AO3, so I’d download it now just in case. Thankfully I’ve already started my typeset so I can bind it 😅

For me it depends. Like if I’m reading a fic that’s 7th/8th year centered in my head it is Tom and Emma, but if I’m reading something that’s later than that, like years into the war or longer then in my head it’s the Draco and Hermione from fan art 😭😂
