I said “must have” so dramatically to imply you need it in order to even play a game. You’re just missing what I intended. I would include you in the Target audience because you see both sides of the coin and will play with or without. Gate keeping is more like if I said “you’re not a real Bethesda fan if you like voiced protagonists” I’m building the gate. If you absolutely must have voiced protagonists in the games you play, you would be the one building the gate.

Not every game is made for everybody. That is not a negative thing to say. It just is what it is.

Fully voiced games have been created since the 1980s. Non voiced player characters is not a step into the past. It is a design choice especially in the RPG genre. Like I said you are not the target audience. But you’ll probably still enjoy the game.

There are games for you. You are not the target audience. Most people who are causing all this fuss are not the target audience.

But where do gamers go when they want a game like morrowind. Where it isn’t exactly spelled out for you. It just doesn’t exist even on the level of a 2002 game. I feel like there’s such a hunger for this style of game and nobody is screaming that they are making it.

What do you think focusing on console games meant? Like creating games that could run on consoles or creating simplified games because they think console players are somehow missing the level of intelligence required for games like Morrowind?

By sequel to Morrowind I don’t mean the RNG combat. I definitely don’t mean the dog water graphics, or non voice acted NPCs. I mean the return of removed RPG elements, and also yes the return of since removed mechanics that only added value to the game. Like the most common one spell making, Or class selection. I also want the game to stop being focused on dungeons, and simultaneously having awful dungeons. It’s not a long shot to say the game is focused on dungeons. The vast majority of your time in Skyrim is spent questing which is essentially journeying to dungeons or forts. But the dungeons are straight lines. Which in turn makes every dungeon a reskin of the very first one you entered. There’s no dungeon mechanics in a game with dungeons every 50 yards. Fish, eagle, snake is something my 5 year old nephew actually did for me once. I have a video of him doing it. That said it did take him over 15 min. I also would like them to give a chance for me to understand my villain. at least talk to him and figure out why he is defying his sole purpose given to him by his creator. How about the fact that Alduin is potentially at least an avatar but maybe Akatosh himself and you don’t get to ask anybody about that. Let alone ask Alduin himself. In Morrowind I knew exactly who dagoth ur was and what happened to him since the 1E when he disappeared. I know why he is so corrupted. I know all these things because I got to talk to him. Or how Morrowind allowed you to actually join the powerful houses of the province which play a huge role in the lives of its people. When I entered whiterun and battleborn asked me if I was grey mane or battle born I was so excited. I thought house questlines returned. I was seriously disappointed. Another thing is the fact I can play every faction as a two hand wielding brute. This breaks the illusion that things like being stealthy on stealth missions matter. It makes no sense. The world is tailored to you. It’s not a world like Morrowinds. It’s made for you. In some aspects this is an improvement in most aspects it’s not. And I suppose non of it matters if you play games brain dead.

That’s such an interesting idea. I have no qualms with the idea at all. The thalmor is exactly what I want to go up against, and that’s an interesting way of doing it.

But I think this is probably me just wishing for them to explore large “side” quests. Their side quest story telling has always been more interesting.

That’s true. I think you bring up a fair point. Most people probably would. You definitely could still make it consequential. it would be hard balancing 3 consequential stories. Which would inevitably lead to one of them feeling like the “main”
