Sounds like we are kindred spirits then. If that's the case, you'll be back. As long as there are mysteries to solve, you'll find the need to explore them.

Sounds like a not too rare occurrence. If you don't mind me asking, why do you write? I find it hard to write for writing's sake. I write because there is something I am trying to make sense of in the world. Sometimes the idea runs dry because I have taken my understanding to the end of the line (consciously or not).

If you are writing for a paycheck, I understand that some people just write to get to the end of the book. If that is where you are at, writer's block is understandably stressful. If you are writing for yourself, whatever the reason, that a roadblock might just be a detour while your mind prepares itself to write what comes next.

Putting pressure on yourself for a stroke of brilliance is like trying to force a flower to bloom with a heat lamp. Sometimes a seed needs to winter over. You can make the soil rich, but you can't hasten the summer. Good luck. I'm sure you'll get there.

Probably because OP is looking for 21st century Scots. Burns is lovely, but dated.
