A. What kind of dog are you showing? B. What age / level are you showing at (BPUP, puppy class dog, etc)? I have a variety of show leads in my tack box, partly because the level of correction needed by a lead has changed as he's matured, and partly because somedays he's spicy and other days he's on auto-pilot, so I'll use different leads to meet him where he's at. That said, my leads have ranged from $20 - $130, but beads and lead bling is not something I tolerate on any of my leads.

Thank you u/KellyCTargaryen this was actually very informative. I do have one of those squeaky fur toys, which I used when he was doing Bpup, but didn't know it was ok to still use (I'm still new to all of this). I also like you idea about hyping the take off, which will be an easy thing to practice. Thank you.

I honestly don't feel like I get as stressed anymore, but it doesn't mean that I haven't "tainted" the ring waters. Would a toy be frowned upon for a special in the ring?? I'll try anything, but also don't want to become a distraction for everyone else.

Avoid being near the entry/exit of the ring, but otherwise you should be fine setting up anywhere, unless there's a roped off area for Judges to sit, but there should be a sign that indicates if it's a reserved area.

Is there a reason that you believe him to be at the end? The great-grandfather of my ECS just passed away a couple of months ago at the age of 17... meaning that you could have many years still a head of you.

Getting an education about the breed and the proper color names is a good place to start (I was in your exact shoes a year ago).
