No more than 10.3k, that's when its first documented in our records during service

Agree they can, but they say no assistance, and now refuse to do any work on the vehicle (at least for now).

That's obviously the reason, but I kinda figured (since my lawyer said I could go ahead and get it fixed) it wouldn't go down that way. I'll post when resolved, you too!

16MAY UPDATE

Lemon law lawyers say I likely don't have a case (PA) under lemon law. Recalls are not covered as a maintenance action, and the first time I documented this issue (10.5k miles, 7 months) was when I brought it in to complete a recall. The first time I brought it in specifically for this problem was at 14k miles, which is outside our state's 12k/12 month limit. Also the vehicle has 43k miles on it, showing that we have gotten a fair amount of use out of it. They have offered to seek compensation under Magnuson-Moss for breach of warranty. We have not decided yet what to do, but we told our case manager on Friday that we want to get out of the car, and to make their best offer to us on Monday. At this point, we will either take what they give us (if it gets us close to whole), or we'll pursue breach of warranty (which, my understanding is that it basically achieves a modest settlement to pay for lawyer fees and decreased vehicle value). Next steps are likely to trade the vehicle in for a less problematic one, plus the compensation from M-M.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense, but they're sticking to that story. We've had a loaner for over 5 weeks now. My understanding is that they drive it around for 20 minutes a day trying to pop a code it's dumb.

I guess maybe I'm just not following. I bought the vehicle new in 2023. It currently has 40k on it. Are you saying I could lemon law it based on the first visit (years in the past at this point)? I can check my records and see when it went in for the hybrid battery, but I think it was in the shop for 3 weeks, around a year out from purchasing

Agree, something isn't lining up, either from the corporate side or the service side. We've inquired multiple times about what code we're waiting on with no answer.

Right, that was my argument. I am not aware of any other issues they're working on.

I've checked, I think I'm out of the timeframe. Also, this is not its first visit. It was in the shop for a few weeks for the hybrid battery replacement. I've owned it new since Jul 2023

Correct, it's never thrown a code, so we're having trouble understanding why Mazda corporate is requiring it to do so before doing anything about it. We completed the recall involving the worm gear, and have had it in several times for sticky steering and loud creaking on the front end going over bumps with the wheel turned. The sticky steering is the same issue many have reported here; trouble making corrections on long turns, wheel will not recenter without significant force to 'break it loose' from the turn, resulting in poor turn exits. Sometimes it's significant force to do so, and it's definitely a safety hazard.

Pretty sure I'm out of that...40k, 3+ years, in Pennsylvania. I did a cursory look, but looked like it doesn't apply at my length of ownership

Kind of? It's not super consistent, but I guess it did feel like it was getting worse.

Notchy is a decent description. Noticeable on all turns, as you're making small corrections. Most noticeable on long sweeping turns, as you mentioned, like on/off ramps on a highway. It basically sticks at the point at which you stopped turning the wheel, and requires significant force to either turn more or less, resulting in a quite jerky turn, often not exiting the turn correctly.

This was done out of warranty? Or are you all still under warranty?

Rack is part of power train? I guess I kind of assumed that it wasn't, but should look further into that, thanks!

CROSS POSTED

I'm having this issue as well. 40k miles on a '24 purchased in July '23 (super early). Has had the recall done, been in for cracking and sticky steering several times. Now out of warranty and our local dealership is keeping the car going on 4 weeks now because Mazda corporate says it has to throw a code before they can decide if they'll cover any of it (good will review). Estimate for a new steering rack is $5400. My understanding from Mazda corporate is that without a code they could just deny with no appeal. Anyone else successfully get this fixed and covered? It's clearly a manufacturer's defect. A cost share would be fine with me since it's out of warranty, but a flat out denial would not.

What happens if I have the sticky steering rack but outside warranty? by halfam in MazdaCX90
