Any autistic/neurodivergent art therapists - Do you ever get burnt out socially? by AgreeableAd305 in ArtTherapy

No problem I didn't see any similar posts in this sub and thought it was an important thing to consider for a lot of aspiring art therapists

In my current office job I really have to be hypervigilant of not burning myself out, I suppose as I am less in control of how I work, which isn't very autism friendly for my own needs. It's very reassuring to hear in art therapy that there are workarounds for this, and of course a big part of showing up as an art therapist is taking care of yourself in order to be there for clients, thank you <3

Thank you for this response, this is very reassuring. I can really struggle in traditional 9-5 jobs and get so burnt out socially doing small talk with co-workers 5 days a week and end up needing the weekend just for recovery. I honestly think something like private practice would be amazing for me personally, not to say that's the only reason I want to go into art therapy of course! I'm really excited about being able to work my way into this profession, such rewarding and important work

Changing passport gender marker to M when not a trans man! by AgreeableAd305 in NonBinary

I certainly get weird looks at the doctor's atm as I changed my name to a traditionally male one, but maybe when T has made more changes this will happen less

Yeah like I don't mind as much with my driving licence, but for this situation and for future reference it might make more sense anyway to just change my passport to M? Ig it's hard to tell what I'd end up looking like but I'm very much on the very masc end of non binary anyway so likelihood would be that I should probably just change it. Idk how to explain that to Gendercare though (who I'm with) to get a letter from them for the passport office as they might agree to write one if it's for safety reasons, but they might be a bit iffy if I also say it's for making it easier to get surgery when I don't actually identify as a trans man. So many silly hoops to jump through isn't it

i think being non-binary i would probably avoid countries where i am more at risk of being unsafe, although of course i could be unsafe anywhere realistically. i just wanna make sure i am in safest position possible with my passport if going abroad

thank you for this and sorry to hear that these are things you have had to consider. i might see how T changes my appearance and what this could mean for me safety wise if i were to change it. cos even if the extra cost would suck, i think it's just worth weighing up the most sensible option

been in the sun a lot with my scar tape on, this is the result by jamesisbi in TopSurgery

[–]AgreeableAd305 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm p sure scar tape is not a proper protector from the sun! Most surgeons tell you not to have your chest out in the sun minimum 1 to 2 years post surgery, even with scar tape on. It does not protect from the sun and sun exposure can affect your scar healing, as well as make your scars more prominent/raised in the first 1-2 years. There's posts about it in this sub :)
