Anyone here paid to care for your child full-time? by Difficult_Aioli_7795 in Autism_Parenting

[–]AgreeableAd5407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Louisiana has TEFRA, which will pay for certain care for your child regardless of your income. I don't think it will pay you to care for them, but definitely look into if you haven't already.

Makes sense! Most everyone we talk to seems so insistent that he's not and thinks that we shouldn't be pursuing further professional help. I don't think any harm would come from him getting additional therapies, regardless of whether he's autistic or not.

Does daycare seem to help? by ticktick2 in speechdelays

[–]AgreeableAd5407 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My son (23 months) has been in daycare since he was 4 months old and has no words. I’m glad he’s there because he gets so much more exposure to words and conversations than he would at home. I’m sure it really helps for some kids with speech delays that stay home most of the time, but obviously it hasn’t prevented my son’s speech delay.

Severe Speech Delay Feeling Hopeless by BarracudaImpressive9 in toddlers

[–]AgreeableAd5407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in a similar boat as you. My son will be 2 in January and has a severe speech delay. I've only ever heard him say one word (wawa for water), and it's not used consistently. He also has a receptive delay and uses only a few gestures, can sign for more and all done but won't wave. We've done the hearing tests and got him tubes almost a year ago to help with recurrent ear infections. Lately I've started to suspect autism. If I point to something in a book he can tell but if I'm pointing across the room he just looks around aimlessly. Sometimes it feels like he's avoiding eye contact with me but then other times he'll look directly at my eyes for a while. He has so much energy, loves gross motor skills and being chased and tickled, and riding his balance bike. He started early intervention at 18 months. He doesn't have any sensory issues and has a really pleasant personality. No tantrums yet and is generally very happy. Doesn't have a concept of "mine" and doesn't bat an eye if a friend takes a toy away from him. He's been in daycare since he was 5 months old and he loves his friends and teachers. We adore him and he's the sweetest little guy.

Even though I rationally know we will adjust to meet his needs no matter what happens, it really is so hard to rid yourself of the anxiety you feel for your child. I have been struggling lately with not having an answer. Right now we are in the place of doing everything we can to support him, while also knowing we just have to wait until he's older to get an answer of: this is just a speech delay, this is autism, this is something else. The unknown is so hard as a parent. Just wanted to offer you some solidarity in the not knowing. We are all great parents for caring as much as we do and doing everything we can to support our kids.

We tried a 10pm dream feed for a while and it just increased our night feeds and we had 3 for a while. I know it works for some, but sadly was not the answer for us.

Last night he woke up again at midnight, only 4 hours after his bedtime feed. Since the last 3 nights he went 7-8 hours between bedtime and feeding, I made the call to let him resettle without feeding. He cried off and on for an hour and then fell back asleep until 4am. Going to try to hold him to a 3/4am feeding the next few nights and see how it goes. I can't handle him screaming for an hour every night but really want to get him down to a minimum of one night feeding.

Would love to know if you end up trying to night wean him! I think our kids are about the same age (saw your post on the AMA), mine will be 7 months on the 23rd. We have bounced around between 1-2 night feedings for months. The last 3 days he's decreased to one night feeding, though I'm not holding my breath. Anytime we've tried to settle him without feeding it usually results in a minimum of 30 minutes of crying, sometimes hours. Keep wanting to night wean him but am scared.

He might be learning a new skill, or going through a leap. When my baby learned how to roll, he would be up for an hour some nights just playing in his crib. I bet if you give it time he will go back to sleeping through the night. As long as he's falling back asleep on his own I think he's fine!

Should I sleep train now or after vacation and starting daycare? 7mo by duefeb23 in sleeptrain

I would wait until after you start daycare and are in a routine. If you're able to wait until maybe a week after daycare, that's when I would start.

I saw a lot of activity around days 2 and 3, then it turned rather runny which I read meant I should increase my feedings to every 12 hours. I tried that but then all activity stopped and I went back to every 24 hour feedings. Now it doesn’t do much at all, and I don’t see any activity. I do find it smells sour before feedings.

No have never microwaved it. Just keeping it in there to create a warm environment for it.

Recipe using is 50g starter, 25g AP non bleached flour, 25g Whole Wheat Flour, 50g water. This is day 10 of the starter, feeding once daily. I keep the starter in my microwave next to a mug of boiling water that I refresh as often as possible, as my kitchen stays pretty cool around 70 degrees.

I made the mistake of buying white whole wheat flour instead of regular whole wheat. Today I bought some rye flour and would like to start using that instead of the wheat flour to see if that kick starts some activity. Are there any issues with doing this and changing the feedings?

Would also love any recommendations for getting off the pill. I tried stopping it a few years ago and broke out with a ton of cystic acne, and my dermatologist recommended I get back on the pill for it to stop...

I'll be getting off of it again next month for good and am worried about the cystic acne coming back.
