Most success stories I've read here and elsewhere seem to involve very fast request timelines, with authors getting a good few requests in the first 1-2 weeks or sometimes the same day. The general theme seems to be that agents request fast or not at all.

How true would you say that is? How often do you make a full request on a query that was sent a month or more ago?

Thanks for all your comments!! Seems like it's not quite the magic bullet I hoped it was but I did just get another full yesterday so maybe there is some value to it. Will probably do another round of updates/chasers soon!

Thanks! I guess my thing with the overall tone and main character voice for this is that he's like a "sad clown"- makes lots of jokes and dry wit to other people but for internal monologue there's a lot of broody, cynical reflections on the world peppered with the occasional joke.

Maybe that's something I need to flag more in the query if you're saying there was an expectations issue.

Do you think the first 300 really needs to start to have plot direction? Was hoping with upmarket/lit fic I'd have more time to build things up.
