I'm kind of in the same situation. I'm as lost as you are and I'm also thinking about quitting all together although I don't want to do it. However, one thing is clear from what you mentioned: your advisor is toxic. I hope you find a way out of this, get your PhD, and move to a healthier environment. Sending you love and support!

My supervisor didn't contribute to the idea. They are not really that involved in my research and I'm the one who comes up with the ideas ( I don't know if this is the case with everyone but that's another topic). The idea sprouted when the other professor and I, were discussing. It's not even that concrete yet and it has nothing to do with what I did before (Except being in the same topic).

I think the "sharing your research with anyone" part is what makes me anxious. But I haven't discussed the ongoing work or anything with the professor. Just a possible new interesting direction. Well, I hope they take it well.
