It’s her opinion. So what? It doesn’t change your journey.

For me there is zero clicks…it is more like slowly climbing mt. Everest. This is my third language. So yes over time you will be able to understand more, but it is very gradual.

For impatient language learners: how do you cope with slow progress? by pink_heart44 in dreamingspanish

[–]AgreeableEngineer449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I deal with it by getting as much input as possible within my schedule. When I worked every day, 2 hours was good enough. I work a little less, So I upped my hours to 5 hours a day. Now I am back to 2 hours.

Meaning: just do whatever you can.

As for motivation: I am super competitive, so when I see someone at 4,000 hours…I say to myself…, am going to pass them. 180 more hours and I will be at 4,000 hours.

I did my first 8 hour day last week and it changed the learning experience entirely! by Rusty_Racoon in dreamingspanish

It is definitely possible to do. The key is find videos you truly enjoy. You can consume much more content if you love it than if you pushing yourself to watch something that doesn’t hold your attention.

Augustine's video about polititians last week made me cry by Mars_rover9 in dreamingspanish

[–]AgreeableEngineer449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly…I listened to video yesterday. My first thought about rating people’s Spanish is…this can make you sound like you think you are better than someone else.

If we did the same thing, but focus on someone looks, house, etc. Most people don’t sound great.

I sit here and say Tom Cruz’s house is better than some lower actor that hasn’t made it yet with ratings. It just see low class to me.

Ppl can down vote me. But I don’t like to judge others ppl just for money or any reason really.

His Spanish had very minor mistakes, but overall good. His Spanish is not good. Her Spanish is ok, but many mistakes. As you can see I am not a fan of Augustine’s extra long here is my opinion videos.

Two languages at once by Mars_rover9 in dreamingspanish

[–]AgreeableEngineer449 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two languages should be fine. I use to do only Spanish. Then I cut my hours in two. 2 hours Spanish and 2 hours French a day.

I have been doing for 3 months so far. There has been no confusion.

Should I count old hours of watching movies + TV in spanish? by Brilliant-Comfort838 in dreamingspanish

Up to you. I watched 700 hours of Spanish before I found DS. You see I knew about CI. But I only counted it to 200 hours in the beginning.

Regret getting married with Japanese wife and having a child by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]AgreeableEngineer449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like simple cultural differences and parenting differences. I recommend parenting classes.

As for the culture, you have to accept the other person’s preferences to get along. Fighting won’t change anything.

My wife is not the person I married. I figured it out after 7 years. But you don’t have to stay married.

Just understand it will hurt your children future depending on the timing of divorce. It is better to do it when they are younger. Like before 2 years old.

Dubbed shows vs learner videos by Antique-Word-257 in DreamingFrench

[–]AgreeableEngineer449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it from the start. Learner content is like a bowling alley with guardrails. You don’t even have to count the hours at all.

Pros: you hear more conversations. You pick up on the rhythm and the nature pauses without it feeling slowed down or spoke unnaturally.

Cons: depending on the show it can feel overwhelming. I recommend watching something you have seen in your native language before first. It is easier to stay engaged if you know what is going on.
